Planning Our Improvement Implementation: Honey, I Shrunk The Labordemic Challenge
Hello, Disrupters!
Welcome back to our "Honey, I Shrunk the Labordemic" challenge! We're making strides together in navigating the complexities of today's labor landscape, and I'm thrilled to have you all on board for this journey.
As a quick refresher, our mission throughout this challenge is to empower healthcare leaders like yourself (or anyone seeking to use science to address their workforce concerns) to thrive amidst the challenging labor climate. This week, our focus remains on planning our approach to our improvement projects.
Yesterday, we tackled the crucial task of brainstorming and prioritizing our initiatives. Today, we're diving into planning out how we'll actually implement our improvement initiatives.
So, where do we begin?
It all starts with understanding the existing processes. Engage your frontline staff—the heartbeat of your organization—and dive deep into the intricacies of the processes you aim to improve. Whether it's the hiring process, onboarding procedures, or workflow optimizations, gather insights from those directly involved in executing these tasks.
Once you've grasped the ins and outs of the current state, it's time to envision the future.
Take a moment to imagine what your ideal processes would look like. This is your chance to wield the magic wand and dream big!
Next comes the critical step of identifying the gaps between the current and desired states.
These gaps serve as guideposts, directing your efforts toward tangible improvements. Break down these gaps into actionable steps, outlining the journey from where you are now to where you want to be.
Now, let's talk tools.
Process maps are your best friend in visualizing these workflows. While there are various software options available, such as Miro and Canva, you can also opt for a simple, handwritten approach. The key is clarity—whether you're sketching it out on a whiteboard or using digital tools, ensure that everyone understands the path forward. A good process map facilitator is intentional about asking questions to elucidate the parts of the process that are unclear or unstandardized.
If you're craving some extra guidance, here's a video detailing more on process mapping!
I can't wait to see the innovative processes that emerge from your planning efforts. Remember, every step forward brings us closer to conquering the labor challenges we face.
See you all tomorrow as we continue our quest for labor success!
Best regards,
