Plants are too expensive?!? 😒
Hey Everyone!
There's a growing concern that has been tugging at my green-loving heart, and I feel compelled to share it with all of you, especially my fellow landscape architects. 🌱
Back in the day, social scientists predicted that over-specialization could pose challenges as technology advanced. And boy, have we seen it manifest in our beloved field of architecture! Today, it seems like a surreal dream to have an awe-inspiring landscape teeming with lush, vibrant plants! Why? Because let's face it, folks, they're becoming unaffordable! 🌿
We now find ourselves in a world where business models have taken center stage, making it nearly impossible for the average person to invest in awe-inspiring landscaping that not only beautifies but also adds value to their property. It's a race against time, my friends. We create stunning designs that take 4-6 years for plants to grow into, while the developer and banking industries embrace a short-sighted approach that burdens owners with debt for the next three decades. Profit becomes paramount, and the plants... well, they're left in the shadows. 🌳💔

But here's the catch: this approach perpetuates a vicious cycle of poverty. Yes, you heard me right! When people can't afford to embrace the beauty of nature around them, we're depriving them of a vital connection to the environment. We need to break free from this standard and redefine our relationship with mother nature. 🌎💚
Allow me to transport you back to my childhood for a moment. I remember visiting the homes of elderly neighbors, and oh boy, what sights awaited me there! Picture this: sprawling, rich biodiverse landscapes that seemed straight out of a fairy tale. They were like mini-ecosystems, filled with intriguing trails to explore. Of course, I was advised to stick to the trails (because snakes and thorns, you know?), but those yards were a testament to harmonious coexistence with nature. 🏞️🦉
Let's challenge the notion that properties should mercilessly sever their ties with mother nature. Instead, let's embark on a journey of collaborative design, where we embrace the wisdom of the past and build sustainable ecosystems that benefit both us and the environment. Together, we can create landscapes that not only captivate the eye but also support diverse wildlife and foster a deeper understanding of our natural world. 🌿🌍
So, my fellow landscape architects and all you wonderful souls out there, let's bring back the magic of those incredible landscapes from yesteryears. Let's reimagine our relationship with nature, design with purpose, and inspire others to do the same. It's time to make a difference! 🌱💪
Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below. I'm eager to hear your perspectives on this matter.
Have a great day!
I help people develop really cool stuff, from ideation, prototyping to completed products.
1ySomething even the financial people see about (Eco-City). One investor said it isn't a complete idea yet... but it looks like something that would survive future recessions and depressions. He pointed out they are certainly on the way!
My posts reflect my support of Ukraine, and are my personal opinion.
1yPropagating native species would take longer, require attentive personnel and dedication, but could be a viable solution.
