Plastic Injection Molding Defects series-Splay Marks or Streaks
Splay is a cosmetic defect that occurs in plastic injection molding, sometimes we also call it “silver streaks” because of the appearance of silvery scratches across the surface of the injection molded part, it can affect the strength of the finished part.
Splay is usually caused by moisture but could be due to many other issues such as high filling rates, water leaks in the mold or the machine. You can see the possible causes from the below table:,
If the splay marks always in the same location on the parts, then the problem is from the mold. If the splay marks are all over the part or appear in random places, we have to check the plastic raw material and injection molding parameters.
