The World we live in has troubled us from here and there. Millions of people undergo extreme misery life, and there is none to care. Government and various organizations seem to discern and get concerned with this matters, but the level of intervention is somewhat inadequate. To best address these issues, everyone needs first to understand what are social pressing issues, their impact towards us and why an immediate action should be taken (individually). In this blog, I communicate you what is a social pressing issue, the impacts of social pressing issues on our lives, why should we address them and the how to.

Social Pressing Issues

With a reference to Stud.com, a social pressing issue, also known as a social problem/issue is a problem that the entire society compromises that it is a problem limiting normal functionalities. With this definition, it's easy to recall from your experiences things you've seen as problems really the society approves to limit normal functionalities; all of those are social pressing issues. In reality, the world we live in is so problematic, and everyone has their issues to worry about. However, not all of them are social pressing issues. Problems like not having a car to travel are really difficult to people having them. Though, they don't limit any functionalities in a society. Differently, problems like hunger, lack of access to education, so forth are social pressing issues because they limit normal functionalities in our societies; they limit individuals' physical, psychological and social growth, economic development, you name it.

Examples of Social Pressing Issues

In fact, there are innumerable social pressing issues. Listing them all isn't possible. However, some of them are listed to help you draw an idea.

Street Life: be it a developing or a developed country, street children are prevalent everywhere. A recent Consortium of Street Children in Africa found that "there are over 150,000 street children in Ethiopia; 30,000 in Accra, Ghana; about 30,000 in Kinshasa, DRC; around a million in Egypt; and between 250,000 and 300,000 in Kenya." This is the same cases in other African countries like Rwanda, Burundi and all over the world. This is a social pressing issue because it limits normal functionalities where it makes these children unable to attend school, subject to hunger and lack of health care services, to name a few.

Homelessness: A myriad of people allover the world are homeless. This report about homelessness in America will put you into the picture. They have no space to rest. This social pressing issue is prevalent in developed, developing and under-developed countries. In different nations, these people are punished for this inevitable (by their own) option instead of being helped to leave it. With this case on hand, these people are even deprived of their rights including right to shelter which every human being deserves.

Beggary: The hardest decision to take is begging. Most of us will turn a blind eye and look down on people who go for this option. Some of us will even blame these people, and think the matter doesn't concern them. However, this is a social problem concerning every individual on the globe. These people are not born beggars. It's not even their first option. They're forced by the agony and torment they experience striving for living. Some of these are mothers who got their husbands dead, and they are unable to stand for their families. Others are children with no parents, or those with parents too weak to support them.

Multitudinous social pressing issues are experienced by different people; impossible to list. The above listed ones seem a drop in a sea. However, based on the above examples, it is jejune to think of others on your own.

Impacts of Social Pressing Issues

There are numerous impacts of social pressing issues on the lives of all human beings. These social pressing issues have oppressing impacts on individual, national and societal levels. Some specific impacts are pinpointed below.

Subjected to Diseases & Death: Most of people facing social pressing issues are subsequently exposed to terrific diseases of which they are unable to fight against. Inability to seek treatment will ultimately result into death. A study in United States of America found that  "Approximately 245 000 deaths in the United States in 2000 were attributable to low education, 176 000 to racial segregation, 162 000 to low social support, 133 000 to individual-level poverty, 119 000 to income inequality, and 39 000 to area-level poverty." which are all social problems that the country was facing. If this can happen in a superabundant nation like US, how about the low nations? We have lost manifold individuals due to social pressing issues just being be subjected to distinguished diseases, and were unable to fight against them; they died in a great affliction.

Limited Development: It is widely believed that for a nation to develop, everyone should be included. Meaning, there is no national development while millions of people are enthralled to hunger and starvation for years period. Statistics demonstrate that in Rwanda, 33.90% of the population were subjected to hunger in 2014 which raised to 36.80% in 2017. In fact, this is a big portion of the population indicating that the country has a big problem in regards to development. Without addressing this issue first, there's no national development at all. These people are unable to contribute since their lives are not supported. This in return leads to a hindered and delayed national development at all.

Deprivation of Rights: Despite the dichotomies in economic backgrounds, family backgrounds or so, we are all created equal by our Creator, God. This indicates that we should be treated equally. Nonetheless, these people burdened by the social problems, are even most of the time mistreated, deprived of some rights and rejected by the society. A clear example is the case with street children. These children not only lack quality education but also lack education at all. In addition, they have no shelter. All this is their rights but they have none. Moreover, they're most of the time rejected by the members of the society because they assume they're ill-mannered.

It's impractical to state all the impacts of social problems. Overly, they will lead to limited development, lack of skilled labor- linked to lack of access to education, overpopulation- linked to teenagers' pregnancies, juvenile delinquency- linked to street life...

How to Address Social Issues

In fact, there is a need to take action towards solving social issues. Having it done, we can achieve development, everyone enjoys their right, the place we live in is bettered, so forth. There's no definitive way to approach social pressing issues. Herein, I suggest some ways to undertake as we embark on solving the issues around us.

Individually: Everything starts on an individual level. Without you understanding that the social problems should be resolved, they're made everlasting. Differently, if you dedicate yourself to solving them, trust me, it's actionable. On your onw, show love to street children, beggars, refugees, orphans... and that will be the cornerstone. You don't need to be wealthy; your simple action can give happiness to someone at least one day. This is very stunning.

Create Groups: Some issues will require an extraordinal hand. They will require capacity beyond what you can afford. Nonetheless, it doesn't mean that they should stay unresolved. "Together We Can", create groups of people who really mind about the world they live, and would like to leave it better than they found. With this joint force, you can accumulate financial capabilities and all other necessities to address the issues that seemed overwhelming.

Communicate: Some of the social pressing issues remain lasting only because they're not communicated. Out there, there are individuals willing to help in eradicating them. Be the voice of those vulnerable and voiceless individuals. Getting this issues communicated, plentiful magnanimous will notice and react positively.

As Mahatima Gandhi said, let's bring the change we would like to see in the world. I believe, none of us is happing seeing people afflicted. Act individually and make someone happy. Cohesively, we can demolish the issues seeming immortal.
