PLDH Encapsulation Technology Confirms Improved PGA Moisturizing Effect

H&A PharmaChem Poster Presentation at ‘IFSCC Congress 2024’

H&A Pharmachem has developed an encapsulation technology that combines layered double hydroxides (LDH) and polyglutamic acid (PGA) to improve the moisturizing effect of the skin. PGA, which is used as a moisturizing ingredient in cosmetics, is an anionic polymer that is harmless to the human body and is a polyamino acid with excellent biodegradability.

To maximize the skin-moisturizing effect of PGA, the researchers applied LDH, prepared a porous bilayer hydroxide (PLDH) with a large surface area, and encapsulated PGA. LDH is an anionic network containing lice or abexisting metal hydroxides. It has the properties of being hydrophilic and able to accept anionic substances, and can stably encapsulate materials.

The SEM analysis confirmed that the surface structure of PLDH was maintained even after PGA encapsulation. The results of the FTIR analysis confirmed that the PGA was successfully loaded into the PLDH and that the chemical bond of the PLDH was maintained after the PGA was loaded. The results of the DLS (Dynamic Light Scattering) analysis also confirmed an increase in the average particle size after PGA loading. In a 4-week test of creams containing PLDH-PGA, skin hydration increased by 23.13%. Through this, it has been confirmed that PLDH has the potential to stably encapsulate not only PGA but also various cosmetic active ingredients and maximize efficacy by increasing skin penetration.

This research was presented under the title ‘Synthesis and Characterization of the Encapsulating Polyglutamic Acid with Porous Layered Double Hydroxides’  at the October 2024 IFSCC Congress in Brazil.

H&A PharmaChem also presented two other research analyses titled ‘Synthesis and Properties of the Encapsulating Resorcinol with Cyclodextrin based Metal Organic Frameworks’ and ‘Encapsulation of Retinol using the Cucurbituril-based Metal-Organic Framework’, making it a total of three poster presentations.
