Please let me know it's not just me!
There's something that I have been struggling with recently, that I know a lot of my clients, and potential clients struggle with also.
“You have to spend money to make money”
It’s such a well-known, over used phrase!
How do you feel about it?
I’ve gotten to the place in my own business where I need some help,
I desperately need a VA.
I know a really good one,
I’ve known her for a few years,
I have seen how amazing she is at her job first hand,
I 100% know she would do an amazing job for me.
I wouldn’t use anyone other than her.
The decision on which VA is an easy one.
We had a meeting to discuss what I needed,
It went really well,
She quoted,
The price was what I expected.
But,
I’ve not signed the contract yet,
She sent it a month ago.
I know I need this,
I know I trust her,
The price is fine,
So, what’s stopping me signing up?????
I know deep down that my business is hitting a plateau,
I can’t keep up,
I can’t do the stuff I need to do to get to the next stage of growth,
I keep getting so bogged down in the stuff I want my VA to do, that I keep running out of time to do discovery calls with potential clients,
I had to cancel a networking last week as I didn’t have time to go.
That’s one of the core activities I need to do to be able to find new clients.
I know that without doing this I won’t make any more money.
It’s a no brainer.
But still I haven’t taken that step!
I know that a lot of other people feel this way too,
Not just about VA services, but about all spend in their business, spend on IT support, spend on Marketing support, spend on Co-Working, Spend on Financial support, spend on support from someone like me, and the list goes on.
I get potential clients say to me things like,
“I know I need to do your programme Bex, I know this is the thing that will show me how to grow my business, how to make more money and how to do all of that in the timeframe and with the hours I want to work. But…..
I just need to sign another client up first,
I just need to get a couple of invoices paid first,
I just need to wait a while,
I just need to finish this project first!
The thing is,
That just like me with my VA,
There will never be a right time,
It will ALWAYS feel scary to spend money on “developing” your business!

You NEED to spend the money to put yourself in the best possible position so that you CAN sign that client,
So you CAN get some time back,
So you CAN see which are the "value add" projects and which are the distractions.
If you are always hesitating and holding back, your business will never reach it’s full potential.
Sometimes you have to take a calculated risk,
and spending money on developing your business strategy, on your plans for how you will get growth, isn’t an optional expense,
it’s a necessary investment for you to be able to reach that potential and get the step change in growth that you want,
and ultimately the money you want to make!
So I ask you, why are you struggling to spend the money?
Is it because you're not sure if the product/service will be worth the money?
Or is it something else?
Is it that you're nervous that if you spend the money on the thing, you won't make enough money in your business to be able to pay for it?
If you knew you were going to hit your financial targets this year, it would feel a lot easier to spend the money wouldn’t it!
So is it that deep down you don’t trust yourself to hit those targets?
It all feels too fragile?
Too unsecure?
Too scary?
I know these are tough questions,
But understanding what's holding you back from taking action, is the only thing that will move you forwards, one way or another.
If you're holding off spending money, it's either because you're not sure about the product you’re considering buying, or you're not trusting in yourself and your own product.
You need to know which it is, and honestly which it is.
If it's genuinely their product, then you can talk to them and get more information to satisfy yourself and make a decision.
But, if its you, which for many of us, it is, if we're really honest, and don't pretend to ourselves that its actually them,
then we need to get to the bottom of that first,
because that's the thing that’s holding us back,
in business,
but probably in most other areas of our lives as well.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
Seriously,
send me a DM,
let me know its not just me feeling this way!
p.s. this is not me trying to use a made up example to try and sell my stuff,
this is genuinely the situation I am in,
so I feel your pain,
I know how tough spending decisions are, and I have to make those same decisions too,
I feel the same anxiety and worry that you do,
but I also know, that I need to take that positive action, to invest in myself, in my development, my business, so that I can make more money!

5moit is not just you, after 25 years of self employment my thoughts on this are as follows. You work hard for your money and it is not easy to let go, and yes you do hit a plateau where you cannot do everything and except this. However! have a serious look at what and how you are doing things. Honesty hurts, but it does get results. I did have a VA for a while, but i found that once i had given them all the information they needed to complete the tasks i had given them, it was quicker if i just did it my self. It is a real balancing act . But once you look at the tasks you want to pass over to them realistically. The time it takes to give them all the information they need. You will probably change your mind on what you want hem to do. You can them look at employing them more effectively. it was a hard lesson , but a good one. You are just being human do not beat your self up over this. Remember it is very easy to dish out business advice when it is not your bank account that will be affected. I wish you well.

5moI think it is (well for me anyway): The worry that it is easy to fritter away the hard earned money you have earned so far, The emotional and psychological scars of the amount of money you have wasted on other software/services/experts in the past, and The fear that you discover they don't make the difference after all and that you were delusional in thinking you could do it.
