Pluck the day.....
....excerpt from my message sent to the company this morning
"Wake up and live!" - Bob Marley
Team, I write these notes as much to myself as I do for you. It is a great reminder first thing in the morning and a way for me to wire my own brain each and every day to focus on positive thoughts and solutions. As I woke up this thought was in my head - Carpe Diem!! Horace, the Roman poet first used this term over 2,000 years ago in Book 1 of his work "The Odes". Carpe Diem actually translates to "pluck the day", and in modern times "seize the day", to live life to the fullest, to pluck the fruit when it is at its ripest, tomorrow is never guaranteed.
We are fortunate that our profession is one that serves others - the patient, the doctor and the nurse. We are further blessed that our mission is to protect the kidney and help clinicians serve those that are in their most critical state and literally fighting for their life. It makes it a little easier than others in the world searching for meaning and purpose.
So what does that mean for us today?
For me it is being my best self, for myself and for others.
It means that we as a team will seize this day, make this day ours, and take chances.
Have courage with our words and let our voices be heard, but
listen more than we speak, understand others, and serve each other.
Say yes to more today.
Identify problems, and with intensity focus on the solutions
Speak the truth and be empathetic.
Be the best possible version of ourselves
Focus on the positives and see the greatness of life.
Keep this in mind today as you seize the day!!! CARPE DIEM!!!
ALWAYS FORWARD!!!!!
Joe

The future is not promised to us and the past is just a memory that will eventually fade. The only thing we truly have is the present moment. This is a great reminder to take ownership over that moment and make it matter.

3yAnd here I thought it was a Robin William’s original 😂 that may have been my own first hearing as dreamy eyed adolescent... and what a compelling order for the day - make it count. I love the notion of making your voice heard. It’s so strange, thousands of years go by and we suffer the same lot as a species - getting caught up in the minutia and distraction and forgetting that there is only one today.
