Podcast Takeaways: 3 Things Anyone Can Learn From Tom Skinner

 How much knowledge is enough?

For me, if you want to be successful then you can never gain enough knowledge, and you should view everyone you meet as a chance to learn something new.

That’s why I’m excited to share with you a new regular LinkedIn feature, Honest to Pod

In this series, I’ll unpick some of the wide-ranging conversations I have with guests on my podcast, The Matt Haycox Show, and share with you what I think are the three most important lessons we can learn from them.

Plus, one thing I’ve already learned is that you won’t read anything that takes forever to get to the point, so I’ll keep it to just three minutes read time!

Three minutes, three tips - couldn’t be easier!

So, to get things started, first up is social media star and full-time geezer, Tom Skinner who revealed the secrets of turning Bosh! into dosh.

Check it out below, and if you want to watch the whole episode just click here.

Lesson One: Make people love you.

Tom smashes life by being incredibly likable, and when even grumpy Alan Sugar laughs at your jokes you know you’ve got something about you!

Firstly, he makes the people that buy from him love him, by focusing all his efforts on growing his personal relationship with them.

Then, he makes sure that the people he buys from love him, by doing what he says he will, and not trying to screw over his suppliers. Tom understands they’ve got to make money on a deal, too!

Most importantly, he makes sure that the people that work for him love him, by being loyal to his team, and helping them develop as his business grows. One of his best mates from school is now his full-time driver!

Tom’s an extrovert and loves being around people, and so building personal relationships is completely authentic to him. But, even if you’re less sociable than Tom, if you focus on making people love you in your own way then you’ll quickly see the benefits.

Lesson Two: Graft like fuck.

Tom is part of what I call ‘the motivated few’ who are prepared to do what others won’t, in order to get what others can’t. And the main ingredient of this success sandwich is… lots and lots of fucking hard work!

Tom is up every day at 4am to work 16 hours, so he can build his empire, and provide his family with the life he wants for them. That is lots and lots of fucking hard work!

Not many can keep up with that level of graft, but even if you don’t have the energy levels of Tom you can still ensure that every night you hit your pillow knowing you’ve given everything you could.

Lesson Three: Stay positive at all times.

Tom is one of those people in life who sees opportunity where others see problems, which allows him to not panic at times of trouble, and make good decisions.

In a nutshell, he always chooses to be positive, and doesn’t allow negativity into his life. And you should, too!

The beauty of this is that you can practice being more positive every day, by simply choosing it.

There’s things that happen to each of us every day that we could view ‘glass half-full’ or ‘glass half-empty’, and we could all do with a reminder that things we worry about today probably won’t bother us tomorrow, let alone next week!

So, when you’re faced with any situation later today, focus on how you respond to it, and choose positivity. That’s the Bosh! mentality!

I heard Thomas Skinner on another podcast and he gave the best answer I have ever heard for the "sell me that pen" question....
