Podcasters do invisible things

Podcasters do invisible things

Nobody notices what we do in preparing for our guests. Nobody thinks about whether we are using the right cables or we are the correct distance from the mic (I work on a hand's width but you would never know for sure).

The breaths and filler words we remove, the ones we choose to leave in.

The attention to intention and empathy - all overlooked by our listeners. Why we said what we said in the way we did had a reason but they missed it.

That is... unless we don't do those things. Then people notice but for all the wrong reasons.

Being invisible is what we do best, but only other podcasters are likely to be impressed - if even they notice.

When I have laboured long and hard on something that now sounds like it was supposed to, I sometimes want to slip in a bit of the original tape to show you what I have done - you should have heard it before I did the editing!

Our average listener may not know what we have done but they would miss it if we didn't do it.

Here are two invisible things you can start doing today.
