Pointers on filing the 2020 paper return.
Taxpayers have until tomorrow Friday, May 17th, 2024, to file their 2020 tax returns to be able to claim a refund or to recover any missed stimulus payments for tax year 2020.
The IRS does not support E-filing for this return, so the return needs to be printed and snail-mailed.
Because the return needs to be printed, taxpayers should make sure they are sending the correct pages to the correct agencies.
Below are some things taxpayers should be aware of with regard to the filing of the 2020 tax return:
• It’s important for taxpayers to know that they need to sign the tax return in order for it to be processed. If married both taxpayers need to sign the tax return.
• The return is considered to be timely filed when the envelope is postmarked and put into the mail by the due date.
• It’s recommended to get tracking when sending out the return via mail in case a question arises at a later date regarding timeliness.
