With less than a month before the worldwide event, it’s time to get ready for Pokémon GO Fest! With a worldwide event, three in-person events, and a final global event in August, planning is essential to maximizing your time, things, and fun.

Which items to bring to GO Fest?
PokéBalls are the most important item to bring (Great and Ultra as well). That is the most crucial item you do not want to run out of on the big day. Potions and Revives rapidly deplete during raiding, so keep them to a minimum, keep an eye on your berries, and focus on those balls.
Look into why your Bag Space is generally near full; have you been raiding a lot recently? You’d be surprised how quickly Rare Candy can fill your bag, so spend it on Legendaries and other rare Pokémon.
Other surprising items occupying your bag space may include an oversupply of Berries (start feeding them into gyms for stardust instead than just throwing them away), or evolution ingredients. You don’t need a lot of each evolution item; either use it or trash it, and save a few of each safe for evolutions.
Opening your maximum number of presents each day leading up to the event will help you with your ball hoarding, so make sure you’re sending out as many gifts as possible and opening your maximum amount each day. Make certain that you have reached your daily limit.
If you need more friends, hunt for them in your local groups, discord servers, and so on, post on social media, increase your friend list, and buy yourself more stuff. Simply inputting your buddy code on Twitter may result in a large number of new followers.
If you’re using a GO Plus or anything similar, make sure you have plenty of Pokéballs instead of Great Balls. It will quickly drain them, so use Great/Ultra balls and preserve your Pokéballs for the GO Plus. Check that your GO Plus is also set to spin for you!
It’s also a good idea to have any incense, star pieces, or lucky eggs on available, and remember that you may stack them up now, so put them on early in the event and you won’t have to worry about them running out later.
For ticket holders, there are incense-only unique spawns, so you’ll need incense to get them!
Raids will be a big feature of GO Fest (especially day 2), so make sure you have enough money in your rucksack to avoid having to buy them on the day. Make good use of your free passes, but don’t skip out on raids because you have to spend cash.
Some Pokémon may be egg-exclusive as well, so try to empty your eggs the night before so you have an empty egg store before the event starts. If you want to hatch a shine, remember to incubate your eggs and maybe buy some incubators ahead of time. Shiny rates may be higher than usual, so hatch anything you can on the day! You’re going to be walking a lot any way, so take advantage of that unlimited incubator.
Make a Shiny Checklist
I’d make a gleaming checklist of everything you need from known event spawns before the day itself. Go through your Pokédex and make a note of everything you don’t have; you may be surprised at how many you need, or you could find you have shinies you forgot about. We know that particular spawns are emphasized for each themed hourly cycle, which you can see a full list of here, as well as new shinies like Numel, Shroomish, Axew, Karrablast, and Shelmet.
A list will help you prioritize what you will click on in a spawning cluster. Since I don’t intend to leave the app at any point, I’m going old school and producing a paper list that I can carry in my pocket rather than a note on my phone. Even if I don’t use my list that day, writing it down may be a great way to remind yourself of the shinies you don’t have and keep them fresh in your mind. You may be surprised to realize that, despite believing you had the whole Magnemite family, you only have two of them, thus compiling a list will help remind you of what you need.
Pokémon Storage Space
With just 8 hours of play time, there are a lot of Pokémon to catch! Clear up your Pokémon storage as quickly as possible.
Only maintain multiples of the meta-relevant Pokémon if you keep a live dex. Shinies from community days should be transferred to Pokémon HOME or the Professor. You’ll never need 20+ shinies of one Pokémon (unless it’s your fave, I understand it, I hoard shiny Turtwig! ), so let them go.
Meet up with a friend and reroll trade some of your more rare Pokémon that you’ve saved, but be nasty. If you haven’t yet depleted your pack space, the morning of GO Fest is the moment. I don’t fill up my bag until the morning of GO Fest because else it would fill up without my notice. I know I can’t be trusted not to take that spot!
Do you need a copy of each Spinda pattern? Is that 93 % Phanpy really necessary when you’ve got the hundo? Now is the time to be brutal with your collection and get it moving. Have you gathered a large collection of legendary Pokémon in anticipation of trades? Sorry, but it’s time to say farewell! You don’t need 20 of each legendary; keep your best six-man teams if required, but go through them all; you’ll be surprised at how many you have. They’ll all be back in raids eventually.
If you like Pokémon, you should look out for Costume Pokémon. I was surprised to see that I had four or five costume Pokémon for no apparent reason! Many do not develop, thus unless there is a gender difference (like in Pikachu), I only have one of each.
I also recommend that you purify and transfer your Shadow Pokémon. Purify first since attaining level 50 requires a huge number of platinum badges, one of which you may work on passively. But be careful with your stardust, I don’t recommend purifying those 5000 dust Pokémon! You don’t need to keep all of them (unless you truly like them for AR), so get rid of the ones you don’t.

Batteries, Chargers and Phones
If you live somewhere where you may legally and safely play outside, have charged portable battery packs and charging cables on hand. You’ll need those charges since this is going to be a long event!
Knowing where your chargers are and keeping a check on your battery life can save you even if you play from home.
Because of the risk of extreme heat or cold in some parts of the world, battery percentages may drop drastically, so don’t let it go too low!
Charge your phone overnight so it’s ready to go, and make sure you have enough data if you won’t be using WiFi all day.
You don’t want to run out of data only a few hours into the event!
Suitable Clothing for GO Fest
Because the event takes place in the summer for the Northern Hemisphere and winter for the Southern Hemisphere, there is a chance of inclement weather, thus dressing correctly is essential.
If you are presently having spring/summer weather, you must use sunscreen. You won’t have a good day if you burn yourself or get heatstroke. Make sure you have access to cool drinks and shady spaces, and wear in light, airy clothing that will keep you cool while protecting your skin.
If you wear your hair in a part, remember to apply sunscreen to that section as well. Set timers to reapply and apply at least 30 minutes before heading out in the sun to let it to absorb in and work. Sunglasses and hats will also keep you safe.

Good comfy shoes are vital regardless of the weather. Wearing new shoes that you’ve never worn before isn’t a smart idea right now; instead, stick with your old faithfuls that you know won’t give you blisters. Another alternative for your backpack is blister plasters.
Whether it’s winter or autumn, wrap up warm! A sturdy waterproof coat with numerous thin layers is better than a bulky one or two.
Sunscreen is still necessary in the winter since the sun may be rather harsh, especially when reflected off the snow.
Gloves that enable you to use your phone and sturdy walking boots that keep you from slipping are also advised.
Keep a watch on the weather; it’s not worth risking your health for Pokémon, so if it’s terrible outside, stay inside and be careful!
A good backpack is the best choice for transporting everything you need. A backpack distributes the weight of whatever you’re carrying over two shoulders rather than one, making it easier on your back and more pleasant at the end of the day.
It is also crucial to consider any local Covid-19 rules, so make sure you are aware of any mask requests and other constraints that may apply.

Food and Drink
Plan for snacks, lunch, and drinks, as well as bathroom breaks. Perhaps lunchtime is the time when you go home to unwind, charge your phone, and refuel with a delicious meal. Mastering the ‘Quick Catch’ approach may be quite advantageous if you want to fully grind (albeit as a lefty, I find it challenging, but I’ve just recently learned it). There are several videos on YouTube that demonstrate how to do this, so check them out here.
Another helpful indication is that when you shine a Pokémon, it will turn to face you. As a result, when you check a cluster, the Pokémon you haven’t checked will not be facing you, saving you time from checking the same Pokémon many times (other than Nosepass, who always turns to face North).
Incense spawning are only accessible for a short time, and you don’t want to miss out on that dazzling check!
Sort through your catches.
Some of the Pokémon on display will be even more rare than others.

Best Pokémon to Catch
You must prioritize your efforts since there are so many different Pokémon to catch. We have a detailed guide on which Pokémon you should attempt to acquire, but I’ll go through some of them briefly below.
Regionals
Regionals! Torkoal and Tropius will spawn, and since they are only found in certain regions, now is the time to stock up. Tropius thrives in PvP, therefore both are ideal possibilities for future exchanges. Get your Pokémon and goodies ready!
Rare Spawns
Axew is one of the game’s rarest spawns. It will be the Pokémon to keep an eye out for during the Plains hour, since it is seldom seen in the wild and is now shiny. Galarian Weezing and Klink are two additional uncommon spawns that were formerly raid exclusives but are now available as shiny. Galarian Mr. Mime, Pancham, Galarian Darumaka, and Rufflet will all spawn in the wild for the first time. Golett, Drilbur, and Larvitar are rarer spawns of meta significance. Of course, Unown is spawning as well, with UBGO making their debut and B making a stunning premiere. Unown is a good Pokémon to hoard for future trades since it is one of the rarest shinies available.
PvE Spawns
Drilbur, Larvitar, Golett, Magnemite, Mudkip, Swinub, Bergmite, and Axew are all effective in raids and worth hoarding for great IVs and Candy XL. If you can play with friends, consider keeping them to trade after the event to reroll for possibly lucky Pokémon!
PvP Spawns
Mudkip is an absolute beast in all PvP leagues. In the Ultra League, Alolan Grimer is a fan favorite. Karrablast, Skrelp, Tropius, Swinub, Spheal, and Popplio are all excellent League players. Stock up on Pokémon and then reroll for additional Candy XL through exchanges.
Bonus Stardust
Some Pokémon reward you with additional stardust for catching them. When Trubbish and Shroomish spawn (and shine), don’t just shine check them; catch them for even more stardust!
Raids
Both Kyogre and Groudon have began to appear in raids, and they are not only meta-relevant legendaries, but they also have Primal forms that we hope to see in GO in the future. On Sunday, a mystery Pokémon will make its raid debut, so it may be something thrilling and meta-important.
Axew, Snorlax, and Salamence will be raided. Salamence will have a Mega evolution in the future, Snorlax is a beast with a shiny form, and Haxorous (Axew’s last evolution) is a great Dragon type.
