Politics X.0 Digital Transformation

I want you to take a moment to consider: "If you had one day to empower people by helping them to tap into their undiscovered purpose and greatness, what would you do?"   

Well that's the exact question Deavra Daughtry, CEO of Texas Women's Empowerment Foundation (TWEF) posed to me a month ago. She asked me to participate in a one day event where people from all over the world would spend the day teaching, inspiring, and motivating others to fulfill their purpose.

So I thought about my "hot buttons", and some of the problems our country is facing that I would like to see eradicated or positively changed. You see, when we focus our time serving others and work together to make our communities better, we don't have time to be angry or complain. We get rid of unnecessary distractions when we are living purpose, and focus on solving problems instead of being consumed by them.

This led me to our current political situation and how far we are moving away from understanding and learning through our differences. In the first chapter of Charles Koch's "Good Profit", he opens with this quote from F.A. Hayer: "The possibility of men living together in peace and to their mutual advantage, without having to agree on common concrete aims, and bound only by abstract rules of conduct, was perhaps the greatest discovery mankind ever made." Mr. Koch writes that "peace" and "mutual advantage" are the essential requirements for civil society and our personal success.

I have no idea what some of our politicians go home and tell their children at night about their performance for the day. What was your final grade at work for the day? Did you get positive marks for good behavior? Did you treat your fellow man or colleague with dignity, kindness, and respect? Did you forgive someone who angered you? How can you measure your children with standards that you don't set and follow for yourselves? The same goes for many citizens within this country who have taken their political passion to levels unparalleled. I humbly feel we all need to take a step back, and get some perspective.

This has nothing to do with political ideology, whether you are Republican, Democrat, Independent, or any other political affiliate. This is about bringing back human decency and intelligent perspectives so that we can have meaningful dialogue even when we have different opinions and perspectives. Instead we stay distracted by emotional media platforms, negative "anonymous" posts (many automated "bot" postings), and valueless buzz words or "phrases of the day", which impact our ability to see, think, collaborate, & respond with positive solutions and outcomes top of mind.

So how will I spend my "TWEF Global Impact Day" on Saturday October 20, 2018?

I will be joining Dr. Michael Adams, Interim Chair of Political Science at Texas Southern University (TSU), in a Digital Summit called "Politics X.0" where we will cultivate our next generation of digital politicians, citizens, and educators.

Politics X.0 is about infusing emerging technologies such as Big Data, AI/Analytics, Machine Learning,  IoT/Edge, Cognitive Services, Augmented/Mixed Reality, and Blockchain into the politics ecosystem and across the value chain.

We believe that digital transformation in politics is in its perfect season, and enables us to work together to solve some of our greatest problems leading with technology + human heart + human soul

So, I choose to spend my day empowering others with technical knowledge, and inspiring them to discover their purpose even through this period of distractions so that everyone can get busy being productive and adding value. As we collectively spend our time serving and improving humanity, we'll look up one day and witness transformation occurring within our political system...and our own lives.
