Post of the Week
Happy International Women’s Day to our colleagues and followers!
International Women’s Day is rightly a time to celebrate the women in our lives, from our colleagues to partners, daughters, mothers and friends. It’s also a necessary ‘bookmark’ in the annual calendar to pause and reflect on the challenges women face globally, from inequality baked into religious doctrine, systematic discrimination within the workplace, educational gaps and financial disparity. Violence against women remains a global and domestic issue and voices are only starting to be heard about period poverty and menopause. There is always more to do; as a company Farrell Associates strives to present 50/50 gender split shortlists where possible and incorporate gender (and wider DEI) considerations into our process, but allyship is not a ‘one day a year’ thing. It’s every day and requires difficult conversations at all stages.
So to all the women in our lives, have a great day and we’ll keep fighting the good fight!
As for our post of the week, the team has had a fascinating and thought provoking day understanding all about renewable, on-shore energy in the UK. It’s fair to say that we were inspired by the engineering challenge and technology, encouraged by the impact it can have, but frustrated by the pace of change and painful process the UK imposes on itself to develop this sector, so it’s no surprise that we have drawn from the myriad thought provoking pieces this week.
