POSWETOOL: The application to find out: where and in what state you are, a tool

The SMASP / MEGACAL consortium was selected by SHO4CF for the development of an industrial application demonstrator, using the components developed by SHO4CF.

The consortium presented the POSWETOOL project, which consists of determining the position of a cutting tool in a manufacturing workshop and knowing the status of the tool.

The following technologies have been used for the development of the project:

  • UWB (Ultra Short Band) for the internal positioning of the tool, through the WI-POS component of SHOP4CF.
  • Visual comparison algorithm, through the VQC component of SHOP4CF, and through the power consumption sensor, to determine the status of the tool.
  • Cobot programming, for tool manipulation, using the T-FTP component of SHP4CF
  • Visualisation of results through a projector, using the AR-CVI component of SHOP4CF.

Communication between components has been done using the FIWARE platform. Each component sends and receives data from the FIWARE core (Orion Broker) through the NGSI language.

The operation scheme is shown in the following diagram

To facilitate the explanation, I am going to show how the communication between the WI-POS and AR-CVI components is carried out.

The positioning of the tool is done through a hardware composed of a mobile tag and several control points (anchor node), which will send the data to a central node and this in turn will be connected to a Raspberry device.

The Raspberry device sends data with the positioning of the mobile tag to FIWARE through the NGSI language to FIWARE, and this data is sent to the AR-CVI component that controls the projector. In this way the position of the projected tool can be seen in the workshop layout.

The potential of the POSWETOOL project is enormous and is not restricted to manufacturing companies. Any facility where you need to know where "something" is located and its status, POSWETOOL is applicable.

Examples: large production, logistics, quality control, supermarkets, food processing chains, toys....

Attached is a Onepage with the main features of the POSWETOOL project.

The POSWETOOL project has been made possible thanks to the SHOP4CF project funded by Grant 873087 of the H2020 project of the European Community.
