The Power of asking for help

The Power of asking for help

"There isn't enough hours in the day Cate! Between a packed schedule with meetings and more meetings, deadlines, courageous conversations I should have had months ago, to ongoing competing tasks, my sleep is off, my clothes are tight due to the weight gain and never mind my exhaustion, HELP!" This was the beginning of a coaching session with one of the leaders I coach.

Can you relate?

When you are on that stress treadmill it seems easier to "just do it yourself", right? You may be thinking; it's easier if I do it myself then I know it will be done right or completed. However, is it really easier? Trying to do everything yourself may land you a martyr award however at what expense. Not to mention that you rob others of taking on a task or role that will help them grow. Overextending yourself may be a pattern that needs to be interrupted. How can you stay in your own lane doing what you do best and focusing on your strengths and what you bring to the table.

What is your belief about asking for help? For some of my clients, it was perceived as a weakness or fearful that others would judge them for not hustling enough.

This was me on Sunday night. I was venting to my husband, about how overwhelmed I felt with the heavy schedule I had for the week ahead. I berated myself for not acting weeks previously in asking for help regarding house and yard chores since I had colleague coming over. Amazing how things always work out for us. Upon driving a friend home that night she recommended a young woman who helped her out with her garden and voila in less than 24 hours here she is outside working. What a relief. What freedom. And for me what an important lesson of letting go of control and trying to do everything myself. And yes my supportive husband stepped up too.

The power of asking for help is first acknowledging if you have any limiting beliefs about doing so then give yourself permission to step outside of your comfort zone to ask for the very help that will free you up. What will you ask for help at work or home to make your life easier and keep you in your own lane?

Have a relaxing day! I know I will.

BE inspired,

Cate

How easy it is to fall into old habits as well. Setting my team up to have protocols and back up to everything is hard but it certainly is helpful when that one extra person is away! My problem is being back up for too many roles! Nice reminder Cate! I need to re evaluate asking for more back up for me!
