The Power of Being Seen: Step Into Your Confidence

The Power of Being Seen: Step Into Your Confidence

Have you ever hesitated to speak up, even when you had something valuable to say? Or downplayed your achievements, worrying about how they’d be perceived? If so, you’re not alone. Many of us—especially Latinas navigating dual identities at work—grapple with the fear of being seen.

It took me a long time to learn this but here's the truth: being seen is where your power lies.

Too often we equate visibility to self-promotion, as if it's bad. Being known as the go-to person is a sign of trust and credibility. It means people recognize your expertise and value, and they trust you to deliver results. Visibility isn’t about seeking attention—it’s about making your impact known so you can open doors for yourself and others.

What It Feels Like to Be Seen

Think about a moment when you felt truly seen. Maybe it was when someone acknowledged your hard work or affirmed your unique perspective in a meeting.

It feels like a weight lifted off your chest—a breath of validation and belonging. It’s as though the world is saying: We see you. You matter.

When I hosted the Latina Visibility Challenge in August, I realized it wasn’t just about learning to leverage LinkedIn—it was about Latinas’ deep desire to feel truly seen.

Guess what? The Latina Visibility Challenge is returning in 2025! Be the first to get the dates and details. You can get on the waitlist to secure yourspot here.

Being seen is a spark that fuels confidence and courage. I've experienced this for myself and have witnessed this time and time again with others.

Why Being Seen Matters

  1. Representation Is Revolutionary When you show up authentically, you create a ripple effect. Your visibility inspires others to take up space, too. Courage is contagious!
  2. Opportunities Come to the Bold People can’t champion or support you if they don’t know what you stand for. Whether it’s a promotion, a new project, or a seat at the table, visibility makes you a magnet for possibilities. You attract opportunities as opposed to chasing them.
  3. Your Story Has Power Sharing your journey helps reshape narratives and challenges stereotypes about who belongs in leadership, tech, or any field you’re conquering.

Mi Historia

I used to believe my work should speak for itself. But over time, I realized that staying quiet kept me in the background. It wasn’t until I started advocating for myself—writing, speaking, and sharing my journey—that I saw opportunities flow my way. My Latina identity, my voice, and my story became superpowers.

The first time I truly felt seen in a professional space, I remember feeling a rush of pride. It was as if someone had finally handed me a mirror to say, Look—this is who you are. You belong here. And while I believe self-validation is more important than external validation, that moment ignited a spark, and ultimately, a fire in me to create those same experiences for others.

Simple Ways to Step Into Your Confidence

  1. Start Small, but Start Somewhere Share a win in your team meeting. Post about a project you’re proud of on LinkedIn. These small acts of visibility build confidence over time.
  2. Reframe Self-Promotion Instead of seeing it as bragging, think of it as educating others about your impact. You’re providing valuable context about the work you do.
  3. Lean on Your Comunidad Confidence doesn’t have to be a solo journey. Surround yourself with people who will cheer you on and hold you accountable.

¡Hasta Pronto!

Thank you Ruby for sharing these tactics to gain confidence and increase visibility 🎯 I thank you for those videos posts our group of amazing Latinas created 🤩 For me, I like very much the one on reframing or changing our mindset on “Instead of seeing it as bragging, think of it as educating others about your impact.”
