The Power of Doing: Why Embracing Action Is the Done Thing

The Power of Doing: Why Embracing Action Is the Done Thing

Latest MTT Poll - Doer on top

As you can see from the latest MTT poll, 67% of you are Doers.

I'm a Doer. It says so in my Facet5 Personality Profile. I'm results-oriented, goal-focused, purpose-led. Resilient. And creative - an experimenter.

I get itchy if I'm not doing something.

Being a Doer comes with a unique set of advantages, propelling you forward in both personal and professional spheres. Here are just a few of the many benefits you reap by embracing the power of action:

1. Progress, not paralysis

As I said, Doers are action-oriented. They don't get bogged down in overthinking or emotional attachments. They see a goal, devise a plan, and dive headfirst into execution. This decisive nature translates to consistent progress, propelling them towards their objectives with laser focus.

2. Learning by doing

Doers are natural experimenters. They believe the best way to learn is by rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty. This hands-on approach allows them to gain practical knowledge and valuable skills that theoretical learning simply cannot replicate. Every misstep becomes a learning opportunity, every challenge a chance to refine their approach.

3. Building resilience

The path of a Doer is rarely smooth. There will be setbacks, failures, and moments of doubt. But Doers are unfazed by obstacles. They see challenges as opportunities to grow and adapt, using each hurdle as a stepping stone to greater resilience. This unwavering determination allows them to bounce back from adversity and emerge stronger than before.

4. Turning ideas into reality

Doers are the bridge between imagination and manifestation. They take abstract concepts and transform them into tangible results. Their ability to execute plans and bring visions to life makes them invaluable assets in any team or endeavor. They are the ones who make the impossible, possible.

5. Inspiring others

Doers are infectious. Their enthusiasm and drive are naturally captivating, motivating those around them to take action and pursue their own goals. This ripple effect creates a positive chain reaction, boosting team morale and driving collective success.

Note of Caution

Speaking from (occasionally painful) experience...

A Doer can be Quixotic by nature. Don Quixote took action based on his own whims and fanstasies, not considered thought or understanding of the characters he interacted with. That's to say, Doers tend act at all costs. And that means they can "do stuff" in the moment, on a whim.

Bring on the Feeling and the Thinking

So... maybe the best way to be is a not just a Doer but an Effective Doer. It's something I often end up telling myself. Because I need to.

Before you can act, you need to think about the consequences of doing, which is really what planning is all about

You may also need to feel the situation, which often involves feeling not just for you but for others - that's what empathy is, isn't it?

Nonetheless...

Embrace the Doer within you, step out of your comfort zone, and start making things happen. The world needs more builders, more movers, more shakers – the world needs more Doers.
