The Power of LinkedIn Audio
When you can combine LinkedIn and having live conversations on an audio platform, the results are pretty magical!

The Power of LinkedIn Audio

I started my first Newsletter with this admission: I'm going out of my comfort zone and doing something new. That's exactly what I did last a couple weeks ago...again.

Now, here's my disclaimer: I've hosted Clubhouse rooms, I've been an occasional guest on LinkedIn Audio rooms, but this is my first consistently regular LinkedIn Live event, audio, video or otherwise.

I am so happy I did it.

For my first LinkedIn Audio room I had 12 people in the room with guest host Bobby Umar and I on Thursday, August 26th then last week on September 1st, we had more than 30 people who stayed with us for the duration of the hour.

Those in attendance at the Thought Leadership Branding Club event heard so much great advice, all FREE of charge. These events aren't recorded so you have to be there to experience it, to ask questions and listen for answers, to connect with others in the room, and to start conversations and build relationships.

If you've been thinking of hosting a LinkedIn event, I highly recommend it. Here's my advice:

  • Plan for consistency and success. I've set up a weekly room, I have booked guests 6 weeks out and I've developed a spreadsheet to track topics and my co-hosts.
  • Open up the room a few minutes early - my goal is 3-4 minutes before the scheduled event, I'll start welcoming people in.
  • You can NOT pull up people from the audience to speak. If people have questions, they have to raise their hands.
  • Be prepared to host by yourself. I did it for 30 minutes and I talked a lot during that time. I felt so empowered when I did because people didn't leave because my co-host was running late, they stayed and listened.
  • This one is obvious but I need to say it because it's how I feel about my content too. Make sure you are the same person on LinkedIn Audio that you are offline.
  • Follow (and connect if you really have great conversations) with people in the room. Chances are, they will willingly connect and even have conversations with you in the DMs.
  • Halfway through: recap the room, remind everyone of the topic, remind everyone what time of the weekly room, and what you talk about on a regular basis. I need to do this one more.
  • Stay on topic and stay on schedule.
