The Power of Practice and Repetition

The Power of Practice and Repetition

Happy Friday!

Did you know that we learn best by revisiting information and by practicing what we have learned? Yes, it is all about practice and repetition.

Whenever I facilitate my workshops I always make sure that I bring back previously covered material because I know it helps people when they hear it over and over again. You may have noticed that I do the same with my daily messages. Repetition is important as the foundation of doing things differently.

The biggest mistake is to think that you have delivered a message or informed people, and they will start taking action based on this information.

For example, many people know that exercise is important but they’re still not doing it. Why?

We often have good intentions to do things differently, and we leave it at that. 95 percent of brain activity is beyond our conscious awareness.

Here is a great example:

Have you ever been horseback riding on a trail horse? These horses find their way along the trail automatically. The rider doesn’t necessarily have to know how to ride that horse. They are so well trained that they find the way without the rider. They just walk and do their thing. It’s the rider who can keep the horse in control and go a different way but only if he/she knows how to do that.

This actually happened to me in Arizona 17 years ago. I can only tell you that in the first hour the horse was in control. I was not.

You can compare the trail horse to your unconscious mind and the rider to your conscious mind.

The question will always be:

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH WHAT YOU KNOW? KNOWLEDGE IS ONLY POTENTIAL POWER.

Remember, human nature often lacks motivation, drive and discipline.

Knowing and not doing = not knowing; awareness is the first step.

That’s why my approach is:

  1. Build awareness
  2. Provide information
  3. Encourage to practice
  4. Remind to practice
  5. Have them present what they started to practice differently
  6. Repeat

IF NEW KNOWLEDGE IS BUILT INTO A PROCESS OF HOW TO LEARN AND HOW TO THINK, PROGRESS IS ON THE HORIZON.

How awesome is that?

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

How do you make sure to move from knowledge to application?
