"Take every volunteer or part-time job opportunity that comes your way, every summer/spring/winter break volunteer it is a unique experience that will not be wasted and where mistakes can easily be forgiven. Working in the tourism attractions industry requires a lot of customer interaction and only through experience & exposure working with people in different situations and under different circumstances will you learn and develop on how to serve their needs and exceed their satisfaction which will give you a headstart."
Aishah’s words resonate deeply. Volunteering is an often-overlooked yet essential stepping stone in many industries, particularly those centred around people. The skills honed through volunteer work - from communication and problem-solving to empathy and teamwork - are invaluable assets for any professional.
Whether it's coaching a local sports team, tutoring children at the library, or assisting at a community event, volunteering offers a unique platform to gain practical experience, build relationships, and develop a strong sense of purpose. It’s not just about giving back; it's also about growing as an individual.
Contrary to popular belief, entering the workforce doesn't guarantee an immediate management position. Many industries, including tourism and attractions, prioritize hands-on experience. By dedicating time to volunteer work, young professionals can significantly enhance their job prospects and accelerate their career growth.
