Power Your Brand
What we are and how we operate in the workplace or society at large, determines who we are as a person and what impression we carry with us. While each of us are encouraged to lead our life on our own terms, what is also important is that we are aware of how we are perceived in the world around us.
Here's a short way to build our personal B-R-A-N-D!
B - Brave
One of the first things in building a brand is to be brave about who we are and how we want to project ourselves to the external world. The confidence that we show in our outlook reflects positively on our brand. Being firm in our thoughts and walking the talk is very important to show our authenticity.
R - Rare
Every brand becomes successful because they are unique and gain popularity because it is different from the others. Strong brands carry either great values, fashion connections, character or just plain goodwill. People begin to follow a person because they find value in doing so. So, it is very important to keep up that unique identity which people follow and change it. We see that many sports personalities do not endorse of few brands that they are not aligned to (liquor, tobacco, or elements that disrupt human peace). They avoid any association with these brands because it will disturb their personal brand. So is important for us to keep our skills, principles, values, or anything that supports our brand, unadulterated.
A - Authentic
One of the biggest requirements or characteristics for personal brand is being authentic. Being oneself and not wanting to change or follow depending on situation or circumstances around them. Standing for what you feel is right will help to build your brand in an authentic manner. For example, throughout my professional life, I have always noticed that when we relate to people, we automatically get a sense of what their personal brand is and we know that they will not do something different. It is almost a forgone conclusion as to what they would choose in difficult and challenging situations. Being who we are irrespective of the situations that we are challenged with, determines authenticity and standing for what we believe is right.

N - Need
We cannot please all people around us all the time but aligning our personal brand with needs of society and playing in the ethical arena will definitely help us in harvesting rich rewards. Take for example, any social influencer who has millions of followers, they try their best to stick to their core strength. Their actions are always centered around their core area and they share what others may need in that area - that which can be beneficial.
D - Diverse
While building our personal brand, it is important to focus on our core areas, it is equally important to ensure that we are not unconsciously causing anxious moments for anyone in society. It’s definitely not easy to ensure that all sections of people are attracted to your brand. It is actually impractical to believe that there is one personal brand that can appease every single person in this world.
Even celebrities, sports personalities or leaders don’t have this distinction of having a diverse following, unless they consciously work on it.
So, here's an opportunity to build your brand from scratch.
All the best in building your B-R-A-N-D!

11moVery thoughtful and insightful newsletter. Thanks for sharing Willis Langford It's so true to make brand stand out from the crowd, one needs to start by being brave, creatively rare and being authentic. Addressing the needs of audience while being mindful of diversity. In this connection it reminds me of great statesmen or political leaders like Indira Gandhi, Aung San Suu kyi, Nelson Mandela and many others in their league who were so brave, they were rare leaders and so very authentic. They espoused what they believed, practiced what they believed, considering the needs of their followers. Being true to their followers. They didn't come under pressure to change their thoughts or ideology from society nor diverted from their values to appease certain sections of society. They even faced threats, criticisms and even hatred for being true and authentic. But ultimately they were winners, not only for themselves but for their innumerable followers, bringing a marked positive change in people's lives in their respective countries. Being true, authentic, genuinely addressing the needs of the followers matters. These are the values which makes one's brand stand out from the crowd. Truth and authencity always triumphs.
