Practical Steps to Create Your Magic

"The magic you're looking for is in the work you are avoiding,"

-Dipen Parmar.

It reminds us that personal and professional growth often occurs in areas we resist or fear. This reflection explores why the work we avoid might hold the key to unlocking exponential growth and a transcendental personal transformation.

The phrase suggests that there is "magic” in the tasks, projects, or initiatives that we are most doubtful about addressing. In other words, this is a call to action to embrace that special MOJO and extraordinary potential confronting the opportunities and chances because you never know when they will appear again.

Often, what we avoid doing is what intimidates us the most. This might be due to their perceived difficulty, complex problems, fear of failure, imposter syndrome, or simply the discomfort from stepping outside our familiar status quo. However, confronting these can lead to significant insights into our capabilities and potential, reshaping our mindset to look into opportunities or chances instead of barriers or problems. Usually, in our perception, things are more complex than they are, so launching and provoking ourselves creates a powerful and boosting confidence to strive for success and embrace learning through failures.

Engaging with the work we avoid is the best catalyst for taking us to the next level, professionally and personally. This process involves not just the acquisition of new capabilities, skills, or knowledge but also vulnerable internal transformation. We must show up with purpose, passion, courage, consistency, and resilience, even though we know success isn’t guaranteed. As we overcome the challenges we once avoided, we often discover new passions, drive, and a deeper understanding of our purpose and transcendence.

Practical Steps to Create Your Magic:

1.      Identify What You're Avoiding: Start by reflecting on the tasks or decisions you've been putting off. Is it a difficult conversation, a complex project, or perhaps a career change?

2.      Understand Why: Analyze the reasons behind your avoidance. Is it fear, lack of knowledge, or uncertainty about the outcome?

3.      Set Small Goals: Break the daunting task into smaller, manageable parts. This reduces the feeling of being overwhelmed and makes the process less intimidating.

4.      Seek Support: Sometimes, the key to tackling a challenging task is to enlist help—whether from a mentor, colleague, or a professional in the field.

5.      Create your Magic: Create your magic by committing to pursuing it with passion and resilience. Dive into the work with complete focus and determination to overcome the challenge. This proactive approach turns intention into action, sparking the beginning of transformation.

6.      Reflect, Grow, and Start over: Embrace a growth mindset where each challenge is a valuable lesson, whether overcome or not. This cycle of action, reflection, and sharing creates a ripple effect, amplifying the magic by impacting your life and those around you. It's a journey of continuous learning and growth, where each step forward proves your resilience and determination.

Ultimately, the "magic" lies in completing the task, learning through the process, cherishing the moments, and enjoying the people who came along the journey. Each step taken towards addressing what you avoid is a step towards a more empowered and best version of yourself. The real magic, therefore, is in the transformation that occurs when we dare to face what we fear. As Organizational Artists, we navigate the roads of innovation and creativity through the value needed, wanted, and unseeing of our organizations. In every challenge we confront and every barrier we overcome, we're not just completing tasks; we're crafting our magical masterpieces. The real magic of an Organizational Artist lies in the extraordinary ability to transform fear into action, obstacles into opportunities, and problems into value.

In essence, the MAGIC is the ART of the Organizational Artist, shaping the contours of our current projects and the trajectory of our entire organization towards a more vibrant, inspired future.
