Practical tips to survive the home office after a week.

Practical tips to survive the home office after a week.

1) Identify the right place for working, and the ones that are not.

Don't use the kitchen nor the dinning room or your bedroom to work, eat, sleep, and see TV. Find a comfortable place to focus, and differentiate it from the places to rest.

2) Respect your time frames.

Keep your routines the more you can. Make adjustments but try not to skip them. If you can't go out, find home exercises to keep working out, eat at the usual time windows, respect the work time window but also the familiar and rest time windows.

3) Be calm and trust your team do not force till micromanagement.

Some people can feel frustrated while trying to manage a remote team, having the sensation that commitment is lower and distraction is higher when being at home. Try reinforcing communication by reducing communication paths but sharing consistent updates more constantly. Be available as you'd be on regular basis on digital office tools.

4) Keep quality and performance on your work.

Focus, home office seems to be more relaxing, yet is still all about work. List the activities you need to complete by the end of the day and commit as if you where at the office but without the traffic to get there. Productivity should be pretty much the same than being at the office.

5) Watch your health.

If you don't have a comfortable workstation at home already, consider getting the essentials. Find the place with the most appropriate illumination, get a desk&chair the more ergonomic as possible. You'll spend too much time there so your entire body will complain sooner if you don't take care of it.
