The digital nomad life gives you the freedom to work from anywhere in the world, whether a cosy cafe in Paris or a sandy beach in Bali. It’s your opportunity to kiss office monotony goodbye and embrace a flexible schedule, explore new places, and earn a living – all at the same time!
But before you head off into the sunset of your new life, we’ve put together a few crucial steps that’ll help you to kickstart your digital nomad dreams in style.
1. Future-proof your finances 💰
First things first! When you’re busy travelling the world, you’ll want to make sure you can access your money wherever you are. At Monese we’re making that easier than ever: with our pricing plans to suit every budget, you can spend abroad like a local with no hidden fees and track your spending with our handy budgeting tools.

2. Research your destination 🔍
Before you head off to your new location, it's important to do your research on the cost of living, any visa requirements, and the local culture in general.
Luckily for you, we recently put together a list of our Top 6 Places in Europe for Digital Nomads, so take a peek through if you’re on the hunt for somewhere to call your new working home.
3. Choose the right accommodation 🛏️
Once you’ve nailed down where you want to go, finding the right place to stay is crucial to your success. Look for somewhere that offers fast and reliable Wi-Fi, a comfortable workspace, and is located in a safe area.

Sites like Airbnb and Homelike can be great resources to start with, whether you’re looking for a temporary home or more long-term accommodation in your new location.
4. Build your community 🫂
As a digital nomad travelling Europe, building your community can help you feel at home wherever you are. Staying connected and making friends with like-minded people can help you feel supported as you navigate challenges, and inspire you to take on new adventures.
Join local co-working spaces, take yourself to meet-ups, or get chatting in online communities to make your travels even more memorable. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and build a new circle of fellow digital nomads!
5. Stay safe with health insurance 🛡️
Give yourself both peace of mind and financial protection with a healthy dose of health insurance. It’ll keep you protected from unexpected illness or injury – and don’t forget that some countries will require you to have health insurance as a condition of entry!
Taking care of your mental health is equally as important while you’re away from home, so be sure to look for health insurance that includes this to keep your mind in tiptop shape too.
6. Set up a virtual mailbox 📮
Even though you’re working away from home, it's important to still be contactable – wherever you are in the world! Set yourself up with a virtual mailbox service, which can provide you with a real street address and help you to manage your physical post remotely.
Follow these steps and you'll be sure to hit the ground running in your new digital nomad life. Remember to do your research, find the right accommodation and prepare your finances and you’ll never look back!
At Monese, we’re here to make it easier than ever to travel and work abroad as a digital nomad.
