Prince’s “Purple Rain” film house in Minneapolis is Airbnb

Grammy Awards winning artist Anderson .Paak is among the latest to visit the unassuming two-story house in Minneapolis where Prince filmed “Purple Rain” (released in 1984). Airbnb announced in late September that the refurbished house would be available for 25 total one-night stays.

When singer/rapper/record producer Anderson .Paak dropped by, photographer Jeff Schear was there for Airbnb via Getty Images . Schear, based in Chicago, is Class of 2008 Ohio University /Commercial Photography.

“My career has enabled me to work with many different brands and celebrities over the years,” Schear said. “So I'm always grateful for these unique opportunities that allow me to collaborate with brands and craft stories that seamlessly blend marketing, art, and history into compelling narratives.”

Prince (1958-2016) did not live in the house featured in the “Purple Rain” film. Prince’s character, The Kid, was a musician and band leader. Some rooms in the restored house resemble their likeness on the big screen; others have Prince memorabilia.

Airbnb spokesperson Ali Killam: “It really is meant to immerse you in The Kid’s world.”

The movie (and album) “Purple Rain” helped make Prince a global star.
