Competency Lead (Principal Data Scientist)

As a competency lead working at a principal data scientist level, you will be directly assisting the senior leadership in managing, strengthening and growing Data science competency (DSC) at ADDO. You will be leading varying sizes of data science teams engaged in delivering end-to-end data science/engineering solutions for multiple local and international clients. You will also be providing input to develop AI products and in evolving the existing ones to the next levels of maturity. You will be working as a technical lead overseeing multiple DS projects, providing your thought leadership and expertise in designing efficient solutions for solving complex business problems. You will be directly interfacing with senior leadership and contribute in developing and implementing strategies to foster a strong ethical organizational culture, specifically focusing on DSC. You will also assist in identifying capability gaps in the DS team and leading initiatives to filling those gaps.

Responsibilities:

  1. Sets data analytics, big data analytics, automation goals, and deliverables based on the established success criteria and defines key metrics to measure progress and effectiveness of the solution.
  2. Selects appropriate modeling techniques for complex problems with large scale, multiple structured and unstructured data sets. Creates continuous, online model learning along with iterative model enhancements.
  3. Develops solutions with newer techniques (for example, advanced machine learning algorithms, auto ML) by leveraging the latest trends in machine learning, artificial intelligence to train algorithms to apply models to new data sets.
  4. Guides the team on feature engineering, experimentation, and advanced modeling techniques to be used for complex problems with unstructured and multiple data sets (for example, streaming data, raw text data).
  5. Leads internal initiatives to develop excellence and delivers on client projects while reviewing the deliverables of junior associates and provides guidance.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  1. An advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or another relevant quantitative field with minimum 5 years of experience in industry.
  2. Strong coding skills, with experience working in Python and one or more cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) preferred.
  3. The ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders, including analytics teams, development teams, product management and operations, and effectively communicate technical concepts and results to technical and business audiences.
  4. Experience managing an agile data science team, successfully developing and deploying scalable machine learning solutions and a desire to mentor other data scientists at earlier stages in their careers.
  5. A proficiency in machine learning algorithms (regression, classification, clustering, etc.), deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, MxNet, Pytorch, H2o or Keras) and statistical models.
  6. The ability to design and run experiments scientifically and analyze results.
  7. Solid expertise with Operations Research, Artificial Intelligence (CSP, Search) Algorithms, System Design, Big Data Analysis & Map Reduce
