Data Protection Notice for the Annual Islands Data Governance Forum Awards
The Islands Data Governance Forum is registered as a controller with the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner for the purposes of the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018. We are committed to ensuring the protection of all personal data processed for the purposes of these awards.
The winners of the annual Islands Data Governance Awards will be announced on 27 January 2023. Nominations are open to anyone who meets the terms and conditions, with nominations being made via the Islands Data Governance Forum email address - islanddatagovernanceforum@gmail.com
You can nominate yourself or someone else providing they meet the terms and conditions below.
Access to the personal data relating to the nominators and nominees will be processed by the Chair via the Islands Data Governance Forum inbox and will be shared with the Awards Judging Panel for the purposes of the judging process. A list of nominees will be published on the Islands Data Governance Forum LinkedIn page in advance of the awards ceremony. We will not share the personal data of nominees or nominators with any other parties.
The purpose(s) for which we are processing the personal data is to be able to select winners of the awards based on the information provided to us.
We will process the following personal data:
Name (nominator and nominee)
email address and contact information (nominator and nominee)
free text as to why the person has been nominated (nominee)
Please only provide relevant and non-confidential and non-sensitive information. The Islands Data Governance Forum will not accept nominations which include irrelevant or otherwise inappropriate information and/or personal data. Where such information is submitted, it will be deleted and not retained.
The legal basis for processing your personal data is the legitimate interests of the Islands Data Governance Forum.
All nominees will be informed of their nomination by Thursday 26 January. It will be possible to opt out of the awards process at that time. The winner’s name will be announced at the Islands Data Protection Awards evening on Thursday 26th January 2023.
The full list of nominations will be published on the Islands Data Governance Forum Linkedin Page. We will include the nominees’ names and which Award they were nominated for. Additional details will be posted for finalists, to include their name and the rationale for their award.
As stated above, all submissions are to be received via the Islands Data Governance Forum email account. This is a Google mail account, and all personal data collected for these purposes will be kept by us for 6 months after the award ceremony in the event of any queries or challenges. LinkedIn posts will also be removed after a 6 month period.
Full details of nominations, including name and reason for nomination, will be shared with our judging panel during a physical meeting in Guernsey, to decide upon the finalists.
Your rights
You have the right to request information about how your personal data are processed, and to request a copy of that personal data.
You have the right to request that any inaccuracies in your personal data are rectified without delay.
You have the right to request that any incomplete personal data are completed, including by means of a supplementary statement.
You have the right to request that your personal data are erased if there is no longer a justification for them to be processed.

Complaints
If you consider that your personal data has been misused or mishandled, please get in touch with us to allow us the opportunity to resolve the issue. The Law provides for you to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner, who is an independent regulator.

Terms and Conditions
Full details of the awards are included in our LinkedIn article. In summary, the three awards are
- the Grant Thornton Innovation Award,
- The Sure Business Champion Award, and
- the Bijou Award.
All three awards are open to anyone who lives or works in Jersey, the Bailiwick of Guernsey, the Isle of Man or Gibraltar. Nominees must be over the age of 18 at time of nomination.
If any of the Judges are nominated for an award they must declare a conflict of interest and an alternative judge will be appointed in their place.
All information provided by or on behalf of the nominees must be true and accurate to the best of the nominator’s knowledge. If it is later discovered that information provided is untrue and the person nominated is selected as a winner the Islands Data Governance Forum retains the right to remove that nominee as the winner and select someone else.
There will be three winners in total one for each award. There is no monetary prize for winners. Each winner will receive a trophy which they can retain. The awards are annual and each Award granted shall be for a year.
The Committee may waive any conditions or rights under, amend any terms of, alter, suspect, discontinue or terminate any Award granted (including by substituting another Award of the same or different type), prospectively or retrospectively, without the consent of any relevant Participant or holder of an Award.
