Procrastination & a Book Rec!

Procrastination & a Book Rec!

Absolutely nothing came to me this week//weekend.

Nothing, diddly squat.

And when I don’t feel inspired - it makes it incredibly hard to sit down and write.

Pair that with a fair helping of perfectionism, sometimes posting a simple 500-word blog can feel like climbing Everest.

Since I've proven to myself that I don't have the mental capacity to write something solid this week - I figured I would look back on all the things I did have the capacity to do instead.

Here’s a quick procrastination overview:

  1. Endless scrolling on X (time unknown)
  2. Trip to Costco (2 hours)
  3. Dechambeau/Trump Break 50 episode (1 hour)
  4. Meal Prep (made 15 burritos) from said Costco haul (1 hour)
  5. Led taped the absolute sh*t out of my 3 iron (sad attempt to cure hooks/slices) (1 hour)
  6. Went on a few long bike rides (2x2 hours)
  7. 9 holes of G (2 hours)
  8. Threw 4,546 tennis balls for the dog (1 hour)
  9. Sent lowball offers for things I don’t need on Facebook Marketplace (2 hours)

Resulting in 0 hours of deep thinking, and 0 solid ideas generated.

Jokes aside (kinda) - what has really had my attention over the last week or so has been Anthony Bourdain's book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly

I've even been pushing it onto my close friends like some sort of cheap street vendor. "YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS"

I've listened to over 7 hours of it in just 5 days.

He personally narrates it too - which is exceptional.

I don't know if it's just me, but on multiple occasions, I've been excited to listen to a book on Audible, and then within the first 30 seconds I can it because the narrator is dryer than the Sahara.

I just can't do Johnny Monotone.

So - if anyone is looking for a good read/listen, I highly highly recommend Kitchen Confidential.

It blends Bourdain's love for food, his love for experience, and dives into what the f*ck actually goes on in the kitchens of the restaurants we eat in.

It's honestly so good it's taken away my ability to write this week. I can't put it down! (press pause)

It hits home with me because it's written exactly how I would have expected him to describe things if we were sitting at a bar - which I admire.

There is swearing, anecdotes, stories, kitchen banter, and a whole lot of words describing food in Italian and French that I can't pronounce. (or even attempt to spell)

Does/did anyone know what Mise en place means? Am I an idiot?

Anyway - it's been very refreshing to have a good read/listen without scripted ad reads every 13 seconds like most of the Podcasts I tune into.

**Rogan interviews Astronaut

"So what was walking on the moon like?"

"We interrupt this message to say, Drink AG1!"

You get it.

Someone telling their own story in their own voice. Who knew.

No script, no worry of offending anyone, no holds barred.

God, I need to get back on the skin track, I think going crazy. I'm writing as if I just found a diamond in the rough. It's literally a NY Times bestseller.

Whatever, better late than never.

RIP Anthony Bourdain - if I could bring anyone back to have a beer with in a smoky bar - I think it would be him.

and PS - for all those that thought I was joking....

this is what peak procrastination looks like
