A profession for sharp minds
The profession of chemist has been prestigious, helpful, and in demand for decades. The chemical and pharmaceutical industry needs people with a high sense of responsibility, a sharp mind, and a constant desire to improve things and learn, as well as to quickly adapt to different situations. Today I will talk about why it is worth studying chemistry and learning the profession of a chemist, which will always be relevant, and how valued and supported it is in the working environment.
The pharmaceutical and chemical industry in Latvia has an extensive history, and today it is one of Latvia’s most promising fields. The brightest example in the industry is the pharmaceutical manufacturer Grindeks, which, thanks to the far-sighted development vision of the shareholders and the professional performance of the team, today is the leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in the Baltic States. Every year, the company helps millions of patients around the world, providing medicines to patients in more than 100 countries.
Grindeks is known as a company that takes care of its employees as a matter of course, both in terms of health and well-being. Ideas and an innovative approach are increasingly becoming an integral component of Grindeks culture. Our employees can be sure that they will be provided with everything so that their desire to develop and the realization of their ideas will be “open to all doors”.
In Latvia, high-quality education is available to become a professional with a wide scope of knowledge and the desire to work in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry. Already during their studies, young people visit pharmaceutical production plants, gain work experience in laboratories, get an idea of medicine production processes, and develop their research works. If I look a little more broadly, the future chemist can also test his abilities and talents at work and practice in research organizations, state administration institutions, and universities where he studies. Self-motivation and being active during studies open opportunities for young students. That motivates them to achieve greater success – from study grants to Erasmus programs. University lecturers are also capable of imparting the best and most useful knowledge.

Although the profession of a chemist is still shrouded in myths and it often seems that experiments, flasks, and work in the laboratory are the only part of everyday life, chemists in their working day are increasingly facing and working with new technologies, innovative equipment, and their intelligence. Various technological innovations are also entering the pharmaceutical industry – artificial intelligence, virtual reality, 3D, and biotechnologies, which create new jobs and development perspectives.
A chemist working in the pharmaceutical industry knows that his hard-working attitude and sharp mind will always be needed. The pharmaceutical and chemical industry include both concepts – stability and innovation. Medicines are necessary for any person at a certain stage of life, and while you are reading this article, new medicines are being invented that can potentially help a patient. The industry is dynamic, constantly changing and demands enormous responsibility. This field is constantly growing at a high level.
I would like to confirm that chemist education also gives knowledge and serves as a basis for building a career in other industry-related professions - marketing, sales, business development, and medicine registration.
You know, everything in any area of life depends on the people themselves, and their contribution to growth, determination, and will. By choosing to connect life with chemistry you are taking a step to help a large part of society and create your career path not only in Latvia but also internationally.
