PROTECTING ONLINE INFORMATION
Businesses must safeguard data from cyber-attacks, data breaches, theft and unauthorized access. Working in the internet age is not as simple as locking up fireproof cabinets or the office door.
Jobstar Pty Ltd recommends the following best practices to protect your business online.
1. Use strong and unique passwords: It is easy to guess passwords such as 123 or your name. Combine letters, numbers and a special character to create strong passwords that cannot be guessed.
2. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) such as confirming access by sending a message to your mobile phone.
3. Keep your software up to date: Regularly update your operating system, web browser, and other software to ensure you have the latest security patches installed.
4. Be cautious of phishing attacks: Be wary of suspicious emails, text messages, or phone calls asking for your personal information, login credentials, or financial details. Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown sources. Note that Australian banks will never email you to request money.
5. When sharing online do not share personal information, such as your full name, address, phone number, or financial details, on social media or other public platforms.
6. Use secure networks: Avoid using public Wi-Fi networks for sensitive activities such as online banking or accessing confidential information.
7. Regularly review your privacy settings: Limit the amount of personal information that is publicly visible and only share what is necessary.
8. Back up your data: Regularly back up your important data, such as documents, photos, and videos, to a secure location or cloud storage.
