Psychological Safety - Post-Crisis Fundamentals Checklist

Psychological Safety - Post-Crisis Fundamentals Checklist

As we said yesterday, it’s crucially important we acknowledge Psychological Safety is not theoretical only but very actionable and practical.

In this video you’ll find yet another checklist of all the things we insist you have to do so that you gain a serious competitive advantage coming out of this period:

1. In your Team Relaunches sessions:

- Discuss your team purpose;

- Contract team behaviours - what does the “speaking up” culture mean FOR YOU;

- Redefine the new ways of work;

- Get facilitation help internally or externally;

2. Change the narrative around “measurements” and help everyone see them as positive. In terms of Psychological Safety whether you do it with software like ours of “manually” at minimum measure flexibility, resilience, learning, engagement and courage.

3. Do both the measuring and the team relaunches at regular intervals, none of this is a once-and-done deal but part of the ongoing people practice work.

4. Don’t let the deep exploration on what is “remote” vs “flexible” be mired down by how worn off and tired we are working under the current degree of high stress.

5. Don’t mandate any panic moves to change the course of remote and don’t forget the work on defining “outcomes-based work”.

6. Remember the small but important strategies of “one remote = all remote”; “time set aside for individual work versus collaborative work”; set clear “Team Actions” once you measured and the data showed you what components are lacking; get coaching and intervention help, and any other new team strategies you’ve created to help.

Nothing new but equally, nothing that’s avoidable or ignorable, all needs doing and thinking and further intentional work so that we wouldn’t have lost this moment and not have wasted this opportunity. It goes without saying, that to do them, you need to have enough understanding of what it takes to win, enough care about the human topics and enough bubble-level empathy and EQ to want to see your team and enterprise succeed.

Stay working hard on your people practice and become intentional about measuring and increasing Psychological Safety to turn this period into a win!

Bravo Duena Blomstrom this is such timely and important work. Thank you for leading this discussion.

"Checklist... we insist you have to do... competitive advantage...": is this "psychologically safe"? I prefer another narrative: _ Listening and exchange _ Inspiration and motivation _ Collaboration, support and empathy
