In our conversation, Tom introduced us to his groundbreaking Eye of Power model, a tool designed to guide leaders and teams towards fostering a culture of mutual respect and trust. This model isn't just a theoretical concept; it's a practical map and a flashlight that illuminates the often-overlooked aspects of our psyche, helping us to connect deeply with our purpose and with one another.

We delved into the intricacies of the Eye of Power, exploring its eye-shaped structure and power grid, which represents our agency in the world. Tom explained the four quadrants of this model, each with its unique challenges and opportunities for growth, such as the pain quadrant where we learn to move forward despite fear and discomfort.

One of the most profound takeaways from our discussion was the emphasis on the virtues of courage and honesty in communication. Tom likened courage to a muscle that strengthens with use, encouraging us to lean into our fears to build this essential skill. He also introduced the concept of the "communication gym," a space for sustained incremental actions that foster honest and courageous conversations.

Tom's insights on the role of guides within organisations were particularly enlightening. These guides support and hold individuals accountable as they navigate their personal and professional journeys, ensuring progress is made and celebrated.

As we wrapped up our chat, Tom shared a touching personal story about his brother's retirement, reminding us of the importance of recognising our positive contributions before it's too late. This conversation was a powerful reminder that we all have the capacity to make a meaningful impact through our actions and words.
