Pursuit of The Slam
I’m sure all you tennis fans out there were impressed to watch Rafa Nadal take home his 14th French Open title this past weekend. His win at Roland Garros, combined with his victory in Melbourne in January at the Australian Open, has him halfway to an accomplishment that only a select few have achieved; The Grand Slam (winning all four tennis majors in the same calendar year).
While Rafa prepares to try and capture victories at Wimbledon in July and The U.S. Open in August, another type of slam is already getting underway in the construction community; The Summer Slammer.
Summer Slammers are precisely what the name infers. They are intensive, time-constrained construction projects that must be completed by the end of the summer. Often related to work that needs to happen at academic institutions while students are on break, these projects are vital to campus operations and must finish before occupants of buildings return.
So while many of us are getting ready for some time off at beaches, islands, and mountains; many dedicated men and women working on jobsites. They will get a quick break on the Fourth of July and then will be working all summer to make sure they hit their project deadlines.
If you are fortunate to enjoy some time off this summer, remember those hard-working contractors who are giving their all in the heat of the summer to build some rather impressive projects and win their Grand Slam.
