Putting the ‘FUN’ in Fundraising

Putting the ‘FUN’ in Fundraising

A professional cricketer in the making, Jack Potter, 10, has begun coaching boys and girls at Parkside Cricket Academy, based at Parkside School in Cobham – from complete beginners to those looking to re-sharpen their skills – and parents can join in too.

“I was really inspired by Captain Tom Moore,” Jack said. “I thought that if a 100 year old man can raise millions for N.H.S. charities by doing a marathon garden walk, a ten-year-old county cricketer might raise a bit by helping to give younger kids a start in the game. My target is to make it to £2,500. I’m determined to get there. Captain Tom was hoping to reach £1000 by his hundredth birthday – and he’s over the 30 million mark! I’ve got a way to go before I get a telegram from the Queen, but wouldn’t it be great if I could reach my target before I turn 11 in August?”

Parkside Cricket Academy director Tim Handel, says “The effort and determination Jack is putting into this is exactly what sport is all about. With that sort of commitment, and inspiration from Sir Tom, we really hope he achieves his target – and maybe he’ll find his way into the England team one day.”

Proud sponsors of the Parkside Cricket Academy, Octagon Developments were keen to support Jack in his fundraising drive, with Group Marketing Manager Kate Geraghty hitting the nets for her very first training session last weekend.

“I can`t remember the last time I held a cricket bat,” she said. “It was harder than I expected – but I had a great morning with Jack and feel I’ve definitely picked up some new skills. Whether you’ve played before or not, I would definitely encourage everyone to book a session with Jack – he’s a great coach, it`s a lot of fun and it’s all for a fantastic cause.”
