Today, px Group launches px Energy Transition, a dedicated team tasked with leading the energy transition for companies across industrial, energy and manufacturing sectors, as well as at Critical National Infrastructure sites. It will deploy the expertise and infrastructure management heritage of the wider px Group to drive through reduced Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and improved energy efficiency for new and existing customers.

px Group, a Duty Holder, is responsible for processing 30% of UK gas and operates high complexity industrial sites throughout the UK, including the St Fergus Gas Terminal, Scotland and Teesside Gas Processing Plant. It also owns Saltend Chemicals Park, Hull, which will soon be home to one of the UK’s first clean Hydrogen plants at the centre of the world-leading Zero Carbon Humber partnership. As a result it is one of very few infrastructure services businesses that has the experience and knowledge to help customers deliver the industrial and energy transition efficiently and commercially today.

px Group is already involved in, and will be able to leverage expertise from, cutting-edge projects that will decarbonise UK industry. On top of the Zero Carbon Humber development, px Group is owner’s engineer on the MGT Teesside project, the world’s largest dedicated biomass plant; and Saltend will soon be home to Pensana, which is building one of the world’s first rare earth separation facilities that produces materials critical to the wind turbine and electric car industries. Whilst in Scotland, Project Acorn, the Blue Hydrogen project, is also located at the px-operated St Fergus facility.

px Group recently received significant investment from the Aksiom Services Group, a partnership between The Aksiom Group and Ara Partners, a private equity firm specialising in industrial decarbonisation investments. Today’s announcement of its Energy Transition Team is one of the first steps for px Group on its mission to decarbonise the UK and Europe and reflects a further commitment to Industrial and Energy Transition.

The new Energy Transition business unit will be led by David Henderson, MD of Energy Transition. David moves across from his previous role as Chief Commercial Officer at px Group and will be announcing an expanded team shortly. David is a Chartered Electrical Engineer and held senior management and leadership positions within px Group for the last 25 years.

David Henderson said, “Energy Transition will be faster and more far-reaching than most people realise, and it will impact every aspect of business. Improved ESG credentials will be essential for attracting investment, for protecting a licence to operate, or for extending the life of an asset. And of course highly regulated industries face particular challenges to make this transition whilst meeting the requirements of the competent authorities.”

px Group has been reducing emissions and developing cleaner energy projects for 30 years, and can help cut emissions on-site on Day One.

  • px Group cut 90m tonnes of CO2 in just 15 years while managing Europe’s largest Combined Heat & Power Station, Teesside Power Station.
  • At Holbrook, px Group is taking 55,000 tonnes of would-be landfill waste wood each year and converting that to renewable energy.
  • At Fellside Combined Heat & Power Plant, Sellafield, px Group upgraded the Plant to reduce Nitrous Oxide (NOx) emissions.

David Henderson says, “Businesses are supportive of the Energy Transition, but they also need technical help to deliver reduced emissions on their sites. With our experience of developing cleaner energy, deploying the right technology, and owning and running some of the most important sites in the UK, we’re ideally placed to provide the help they need on every step of the energy transition journey.”

Geoff Holmes, CEO of px Group, took the decision to set up the new Energy Transition Team. He adds “px Group is both an owner and an operator. That means the energy transition is as important to us as it is to our clients. We have proven over many years that we can cut emissions and increase efficiency at the same time. That’s why I wanted a dedicated Energy Transition Team. We must all decarbonise to have a sustainable future, and I wanted to make sure the expertise we have here at px Group can be used to help as many businesses as possible.”
