Q&A with Joanne Biggadike, Head of Data Governance at Schroders. Featured Speaker at the #CDOAIFlaghsipUKSummit

We're excited to announce that Joanne Biggadike, Head of Data Governance at Schroders, will be joining us for the opening panel at our CDO & AI Flagship UK Summit. She will be accompanied by two other data leaders from Nando's and Auto Trader, where they’ll discuss how to navigate the future of business and technology transformation in the age of AI. In this Q&A, you'll get an exclusive preview of the insights to come on stage on November 14th. We can't wait to see how the conversation unfolds!

Q. Could you please give us a quick summary of your session at the event?

A. The topic for discussion is "Business and Technology transformation for agility in the age of AI" where I shall be providing input from the role of Data Governance. This will focus on how effective Data Governance can enable organisations to adopt generative AI responsibly and efficiently, with a renewed reliance on data an ability to foster trust in the data is no longer a nice to have but a must have.

Q. How does Data Governance play a role in the future of AI?

A. Data Governance is essential to create the environment which provides data fit for AI use. As AI becomes more integral to decision-making processes, it is crucial data is accurate, valid, and governed. Key components of Data Governance such as data lineage and ownership can enable organisations to evaluate AI outcomes effectively and comply with regulations while mitigating risks associated with data misuse.

 Q. Who do you think will benefit from joining your session?

A. Anyone considering the implementation of AI within their organisation, whether at the exploratory stage or further along in their AI journey, will benefit. This session will hopefully provide some key take aways through insights relevant to differing maturity levels in AI adoption, by addressing common challenges and strategies for success.

 Q. Why do you enjoy the idea of joining the opening panel instead of a round table or solo presentation?

A. I appreciate the collaborative nature of panel discussions, as they allow for diverse perspectives on complex topics like Data Governance and AI. Engaging with peers from different industries provides insight which is not usually available. Having recently transitioned into a new role, the panel format also aligns with my intention to balance industry commitments with daily responsibilities.

 Q. Without revealing all your secrets, what are the two top takeaways attendees will gain by the end of your session?

A.1 Insights into common pitfalls to avoid in AI transformation, particularly regarding data governance.

A.2 Strategies to effectively support their organisations in navigating their AI journeys through robust Data Governance practices.

Q. Where does your passion for your role come from, and what’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone following your footsteps?

A. My passion stems from previously experience in operational roles where poor data frequently slowed down processes and made any changes or additional responsibilities difficult to adopt due to the heavy burden or manual work arounds and interim fixes. By engaging in Data Governance early in a project lifecycle, Data Governance by design can help to avoid scope creep, allow for changes to be positive and additional. My advice would be to advocate for inclusive data practices that consider the needs of all stakeholders.

 Q. What do you gain from attending events like these, and why would you recommend them?

A. Attending such events allows me to stay up to date with emerging trends, engage with industry peers, and continue to expand knowledge in areas related to data. They provide a platform to exchange ideas and gain insight which can be applied to my role. I highly recommend these events for networking and professional development.

 Q. What was it about the CDO & AI UK Summit that stood out to you as an event to join twice?

A. The CDO & AI UK Summit is well-regarded for its diverse and knowledgeable speakers at the forefront of the data industry. Its intimate size fosters meaningful connections and discussions. My previous experiences there have broadened my understanding of the latest advancements in our field and provided the opportunity to develop valuable connections with fellow data professionals.
