RēL Talk Today and What is Stealing Your Life?
Hi there!
As I write this I’m 30,000 feet in the air listening to the most contagious laugh of a child in absolute delight. I have no idea what is causing their laughter. I just know that the sound is mesmerizing. So much so that I can’t help laughing myself. As I look around others are also smiling and laughing.
It is little moments like this that feed me with so much positive fuel. Unexpected moments of loving the human experience.
And in a few moments when the tears flow just as easily for this child, will we all find it adorable? Ha! I doubt it.
We make it seem so terrible to not feel happy. Often happiness only means we are hiding.
That's right, hiding.
Hiding from the less-than-happy moments that are inevitable. In reality, we live a 50/50 emotional life. Our emotions are constantly in motion. (Energy-in-motion = emotion)
An emotionally healthy human being experiences a whole range of feelings. Plan on 50% positive feelings and 50% negative feelings.
So. Stop fighting the negative feelings and instead allow the full range of emotions that are available to you.
Your ability to navigate the experiences that you don’t like is incredibly important to actually create the life you want.
Getting to a life that you don’t currently have will include stretching your abilities, your time, your relationships, and your wisdom and it will include developing your self-awareness.
Navigating these growth challenges will not always feel great. You can expect to feel many emotions and when you anticipate that feeling both negative and positive emotions are healthy to the experience of being ALIVE - you can relax into living your life.
So how do you know when you are emotionally healthy? Here are a few ways you can tell if you are emotionally aware.
1. Your willingness to FEEL into the FUTURE. When you're comfortable feeling into the unknown of the future then you have strong emotional health. Feeling into the unknown can really create discomfort. Being willing to feel the discomfort of uncertainty and still moving forward into the future demonstrates an ability to stabilize and center yourself. To self-regulate despite the brain telling you to hide.
2. Not settling for just happy. In order to become the person that you want to be, you are going to have to face uncertainty on a pretty regular basis. Being human, you can bet that you are going to NOT be happy 1/2 the time. Be okay with this and stop numbing out the moments of discomfort and uncertainty. So if thinking you have to always "be happy" is holding you back - NOW is a great time to become the person you want to become.
3. Self-regulating. You create emotion on purpose. You understand that you are the person who generates your emotion by what you think, by using your brain. You know that you can create the feeling you want in order to achieve the things you want most.
The feelings of love, discipline, courage, freedom, joy, and many more are the feelings you aim for - rather than just what you want. You realize that it is a feeling you are really aiming for, not the stuff anyway.
That is why you are human - to experience the full human experience. We shouldn’t be happy most of the time. Achieving the things you really want and evolving WILL require us to experience other emotions. It's a 50/50 game we are playing my friend.

If you find that you are doing these some of the time, then good on you! Watch for continuing to develop these areas to expand your emotional mastery.
Now, use your self-awareness to notice when you slip into hiding from your life and practice these powerful ways of moving toward confidence.
You've got this! And, I've got you.
I absolutely believe in you. Even when (and often especially when) you don't know if you can believe in yourself.
