Rainbow After The Rain

Rainbow After The Rain

There's a saying, if you want to see the rainbow, you need to put up with the rain. Well, maybe this is somewhat more like a storm. We see a sudden surge in social media activity because of the lockdown and every one having to work from home.

We see all sorts of offers being made. Yes, yes, the digital transformation is definitely here. Prior to this, it was just events talking about going digital and IR4.0. But, here's the thing, is this the time that we become selfish and take advantage of the situation?

We're more alike than we are different. All of us feel that. We need to have those bridges build between you and me, because we need each other. And give up this business of not trusting each other. It's a risk, of course. But everything is a risk!

"To hope is to risk pain." And, "To try is to risk failure."

"But risk must be taken, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing, has nothing, and is nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn, feel, change, grow, live, or love."

These words were taken from a book I've had for many years. It's called "Living, Loving and Learning." by Leo F. Buscaglia

This recent situation that's happening around the world, I feel is causing various emotions and perspective to surface. As I wander the streets, there's a smell of fear, anxiety, sadness, uncertainty mixed with feelings of being hopeful, appreciation and thoughtfulness. But it's all very fuzzy.

It's been more than two weeks now, being inbound, having to figure out how things are going to be. Managing what I can, going online into a digital space that is suddenly feeling overwhelming with a sudden surge of activities. Too much noise, I feel.

So I take a step back, trying to clam myself and observing in silence for a while. Being an introvert, I would resort to reading, just wanting to be alone and clear my head. A surge of thoughts comes to my mind, about many things, my life, my kids, my bigger family, my business, it feels like things are just happening so fast.

The news on all media platforms doesn't cut it for me, I gave up on that many years ago.

I suddenly remembered vaguely something I've read many years ago, about this photographer, who shared how he had learned to look at things differently. I didn't remember his name, so I dived into Google to look up, using key words I felt would connect me with what I'm looking for, and the night continues...

So I listen...again, after many years. Celebrate what was right with the world, rather than wallowing about what was wrong with it. Our vision controls our perception, and our perception becomes our reality.

Yes, I now understand that the world view of everyone is different, and that I must respect that and not impose my own onto them. A world that is based on fear, scarcity and competition. Instead of compassion, possibility and collaboration. You can find it when you look through that lenses of celebration.

Whether I can find the perspective to transform from the ordinary to the extraordinary. That there is more than one right answer. That no one is wrong, that they are just doing their best with whatever they have. And when there's more than one right answer, then I can begin reframing the obstacles that I see into opportunities. Do I have fear. Yes.

But everyday we have a choice to put the frames of celebration. We either we see bad, good or great. When I change my lenses, I change my life. Do I have that choice, yes. So I must be conscious in my choices of where is my focus is everyday.

I can either look at it as a cup half empty or a cup half full or even overflowing. Yes, everyone is doing the best that they can, some better than others. But let us not generalise that everyone needs to be doing the same immediately! Yes, take a little bit of time. But do take action. Change is the only constant.

Do I see that vision, and celebrate what's right with the world. That there is hope for humanity. I start again with a new chapter, and that it is O.K. to start over. In the end, we are in this together. We need to start doing things together to overcome this situation.

May you find your rainbow after this rain. And may the new lenses you put on, give you a reason to celebrate what's right with the world, whatever that may be for you.

I would look for the rainbow at the start of the rain and the tail end before it’s over.

Thank you for the article Al. It is really about perspective indeed. As the, saying goes, for nothing is certain, but anything is possible.
