rAVe [TV] Episode 14
Welcome back! Thank you for joining Steph and me for another episode of rAVe [TV]. This week, we are discussing the following hard-hitting topics: retirement announcements, projection mapping and the Oxford comma. Read on to keep up with all our favorite pieces of AV news of the week.
Weekend Updates and Oxford Comma
I am on vacation in the Outer Banks, but didn’t want to miss an episode with Steph! While I spent last weekend at the beach, she saw the movie “Black Widow.” Seeing it in theaters made her realize how much she missed the experience of attending an in-person movie. Hot take: Steph likes the Marvel movies (that she’s seen), but thinks some of the older ones from Phase One are boring!
Another important topic: the Oxford comma. This is a grammatical issue that rips offices apart everywhere, including ours. I don’t think the Oxford comma is ever needed — it just takes up extra space! But Steph says in grammar she “never says never” because there are special cases where she uses it for clarity. Are you #TeamOxfordComma?
LAVNCH Updates
It feels like July just started, but it’s been a busy month for LAVNCH!
All the major rental and staging companies came together for “The Future of Live Events,” hosted through the LAVNCH platform. This event took place on July 8, but you can catch the highlights on LAVNCH.com.
We also recently hosted a LAVNCH & LEARN with Sharp NEC Display Solutions. The company partnered with Avery Dennison to create a film that allows for any glass to become a projection screen. Integrators are going to love it, in my humble opinion!
In terms of events on the horizon, we have one with USAV — the multiday NexGen Education event — and one with ScreenBeam on making hybrid meetings work for your organization.
As always, you can register for all the above events (and archive) at LAVNCH.com!
Big Announcement
rAVe [TV] officially has a sponsor — everyone say a big welcome to Legrand AV! It’s very important to us for this show to be educational, so we are thrilled that Legrand will be contributing useful content to our show — and not just ads. Starting next week, the company will start with weekly sessions on our show. Also, we’re announcing sponsor #2 next week!
In breaking news last week, Randy Klein, president and CEO of Crestron, announced he will retire from the company. As president, he has made a major impact on the industry. Congratulations to Randy on his fulfilling career — and we wish him all the best in his retirement!

Congratulations to Avocor for the release of its G series! The touch surface of these displays can distinguish between different fingerprints; they also offer a customizable interface and a single-touch start for all applications.
Nathan Haynes wrote a [PUBS] blog on how AV can benefit from symbiotic design theory. This is a theory and thought process we don’t often come across in AV. But according to Nathan, we should be thinking about it! This is a great article for getting familiar with symbiotic design and understanding it through an industry lens.
If you are going to be in Vegas soon, check out Savant’s smart living showcase with views of the Las Vegas Strip. This project demonstrates the beauty and efficiency of smart homes. Lighting also plays a key role in the “vibe,” as low lighting offers a cozy feel. How cool would this be to walk through?
Lee Distad wrote an article on the importance of dressing for success when speaking with clients. At the rAVe office, we dress casually — we emphasize comfort and productivity over a particular style. But for installers, there’s a balance between looking professional and being ready to do a lot of physical work. Lee writes about the type of clothes that can accomplish both. Check it out!
If you have watched past rAVe [TV] episodes, then you have heard us mention Gordon Dutch. We work in a partnership with his company, Re-Sauce, but we also partnered with him since the rAVe team couldn’t go to the London ISE 2021 show. Dutch reported on our behalf and shared a summary of his thoughts in this blog, complete with videos and photos of the show floor.
In Atlanta, an immersive 4D VR experience uses projection mapping to immerse viewers into a jungle scene. This is an amazing consumer experience that I suspect will be placed into public gathering spaces in the near future! What do you think? Is that too far-fetched?
Thanks for reading! Stay tuned next week for another episode of rAVe [TV].
