RDLF News: Issue 10

We hit the ground running in the first two months of 2024, and we're excited to share some uplifting news and opportunities for our readers in this latest issue.

Dion's 1,000,000th Pound

On February 1st, our partner Dion's Chicago Dream celebrated their one-millionth pound of delivered fresh produce with a surprise visit to one of their first participants.

Monica Thompson is a mom, accountant, Englewood resident, and one of the first neighbors who signed up for free fresh produce when Dion's Chicago Dream began in 2020. When she came downstairs that morning, she thought she would just be receiving another delivery. But in addition to the one-millionth pound of fresh produce, Thompson received a whole lot more.

The Reva and David Logan Foundation has supported Dion's Chicago Dream since 2021. Most recently, we invested in a 20,000 square-foot property in Englewood for the organization, which they are converting into a distribution center and community space. We are excited to continue supporting them as they fight food insecurity with their unique approach to community outreach.

For the month of February, The Empty Corner is partnering with our grantee Viator House for their next exhibition titled "Journey Beyond Hope." This show will invite viewers to better understand the mission of Viator House while supporting two amazing young immigrant artists.

Erick and Jose use art to express both ordinary and extraordinary experiences they've had, including their journeys to the United States and their time at Viator House.

The two artists will discuss their art at two open house events on February 24th from 2-4pm, and February 25th from 5-7pm. The exhibit is also open during normal business hours: Monday through Friday from 10am-6pm, and Saturday through Sunday from 1-6pm.
