Real Life Manifestations of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its Future
Its been a few years and at least three cycles of news and hype around Artificial Intelligence (AI).
AI is 'artificial intelligence' ! More clearly, it is a technology that does things that has the intelligence of a human. AI requires learning, understanding, problem-solving, perceiving and language specific human-level understanding by a non-human entity, mostly a robot / machine. It is also believed that AI’s parity with human intelligence could break and that AI will assume far more intelligence than what humanity has been able to amass so far. Just like how humans use nervous systems and bodies to sense, learn, reason, and take action, AI uses its decision-making capabilities and data to interpret information from sensors and input methods to perform activities.
The earliest substantial work done in the field of AI was by Alan Turing to decode a large proportion of the radio communications in the 2nd World War. AI has come a long way from there and the progress has been rocky and unpredictable. As of the 21st century, AI empowers a host of technologies that impact our everyday lives. From voice assistants to video games, self-driving cars to web searches, AI has become inevitable.
Let us have a look at the 11 most common and intriguing everyday products and services using AI.

With the advancements in AI, stores are now using visual searches to find similar items, eg. brands like John Lewis, Shoes.com, Nordstrom, and Urban Outfitters. Brands are also allowing shoppers to find the perfect outfit by letting them click 360-degree views of themselves in virtual dressing rooms. Personalized shopping experiences are gaining followers with online retailers making predictions based on customer data, Moreso, sending out alters and emails to give out the right discounts at the right time helping marketers engage with their customers in new and meaningful ways.
- Social Media
Facebook, for one, the most popular social media platform today has been putting a lot of effort to improvise and personalize using AI. If you have noticed how easier and accurate tagging has become in photos that we share, it is because of the facial recognition feature. But its capabilities are just limited to tagging but also can be used for target marketing like when someone posts a picture visiting a restaurant, they give out discounts and coupons.
- Assistants and Bots
Chatbots have been integrated into some of the most popular platforms like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat, and Slack. Even brands like Uber have been keeping customers happy with one-to-one chat experience using chatbots.
Slack has a varied list of bots which can recognize someone’s good work, post photos, translating. There’s even one which notifies you each time your startup is mentioned somewhere online, saving up a lot of time.
Assistants like Siri, Cortana, and Alexa uses natural language processing to interpret voices using advanced filtering methods to cut down background noise. Coupling up with data to give out answers and make variations like accent and tone.
- Netflix
If you have been watching Netflix you must have understood how seamless the experience has been. It suggests your kind of movies and gets better with the more you.......
