The Realm of Our Subconscious Mind

"A lot of problems get solved in those sort of in-between moments when your subconscious has been working on some problem. If you keep it spinning, you can fix ideas sometimes better than if you focus on them directly."

- Andrew Sean Greer

The subconscious mind is a part of the mind that operates below the level of conscious awareness, but nonetheless has a powerful impact on our thinking, feelings, and behavior. Its realm consists of all the beliefs, memories, experiences, and emotions that are buried deep within our minds, often outside our conscious awareness.

The subconscious mind is responsible for a range of psychological phenomena, including our habits, instincts, and automatic responses to stimuli. It governs our perceptions of reality, shaping how we see the world around us and influencing how we interpret events and experiences. For example, let's say you have a deep-seated fear of dogs because you were once bitten by a dog as a child. Even if you are not consciously aware of this fear, your subconscious mind holds onto the memory of the traumatic event, and may cause you to feel anxious or avoidant when around dogs.

The subconscious mind also impacts our emotions. When we experience strong, intense emotions, they can become stored in the subconscious mind, influencing our future emotional responses and behavior. For example, if we experience a traumatic event, such as the sudden loss of a loved one, the intense grief we feel may become embedded in our subconscious, shaping our feelings and behavior for years to come.

The subconscious mind is often seen as the key to unlocking our creative potential. Many artists, writers, and musicians credit their subconscious mind for inspiration in their work. By accessing their subconscious, they are able to tap into a source of creativity and imagination that lies beyond their rational, conscious mind.

The subconscious mind is a complex and powerful force in the realm of human psychology, influencing our behavior, emotion, and creative expression in myriad ways.Tapping into the power of the subconscious mind can be a valuable tool for personal growth and self-improvement. Here are some ways you can access and make use of your subconscious mind:

1. Practice meditation or visualization: These techniques can help you quiet your conscious mind and access your subconscious. You can sit in a quiet place, close your eyes, and try to focus on your breath or a specific visualization that resonates with you.

2. Keep a dream journal: Dreams are often a window into the subconscious mind. Keeping a journal can help you remember your dreams and identify patterns or symbols that may provide insights into your subconscious.

3. Try free writing: Give yourself a writing prompt and set a timer for 10-15 minutes, then write continuously without censoring yourself. This can help you tap into your subconscious and access your intuition.

Dreams, intuition and premonitions are all believed to be part of our subconscious mind. While dreams originate from the activity of our brain during sleep, intuition is a feeling or sense that something is true or right, often without an obvious logical explanation. Premonition is a feeling or sense that something is going to happen in the future, often before any evidence or logical explanation is present.

Our subconscious mind processes vast amounts of information and often operates beyond our conscious awareness. When faced with a difficult decision, it can be helpful to take some time to quiet your mind and allow your subconscious to process the available information. You may find that a solution or an insight comes to you in the form of a gut-feeling or intuition.

However, it's important to note that conscious reasoning and critical thinking are also important when making vital decisions. We should strive to find a balance between accessing our intuition and using rational thinking to make the best possible decision.
