A Recap: Shifting Gears for the Rest of the Year

In the last few posts, I shared how I began this year with the goal of improving my life by 1% every day.

Initially, this meant focusing on small, unique actions every single day. But as the year progressed, I realized that to truly transform both my life and work, I needed to shift gears.

Rather than focusing on daily incremental improvements, I pivoted toward a few big projects that required daily dedication.

In the previous posts, I outlined these projects: launching a new business unit providing Data Protection Officer services in Singapore, setting up a retirement/holiday home for my family in Asia, aligning my family for a move to Silicon Valley, and refocusing our business efforts in the U.S. with a compliance resolution service.

This shift wasn’t without its challenges. Moving away from daily updates and actions, especially on LinkedIn, made me feel a bit conflicted at first. There was some guilt in stepping back from a daily rhythm I had committed to. But as I embraced this new approach — focusing on multi-day and multi-week projects — the benefits became clear. It not only made my work easier but also led to significant shifts in both my personal and professional life.

Now, as we approach the end of the year, I’m satisfied with what’s been accomplished so far. I’m also beginning to consider whether it’s time to shift gears again as I plan how to close out the year.
