For any executive or C-suite position, knowing exactly what your role entails is essential. If the company you're interviewing with can't provide clear details about your responsibilities, reporting structure, or what they expect from you, it could be a sign of bigger problems within the organization.

What to Watch for:

  1. Vague Responsibilities: If the job description is unclear or keeps changing, it suggests that the company hasn't fully defined the role.
  2. Inconsistent Messages: When different interviewers give you different answers about what your job will involve, it shows a lack of alignment within the team.
  3. Unclear Authority: If there's no clarity on your decision-making power or who you’ll be reporting to, it’s a major warning sign. You need to know what control you have to lead effectively.

As a top executive, you need a well-defined role to drive success. If the company can't provide that clarity, it might be wise to reconsider moving forward with them. Clear expectations are the foundation of effective leadership and organizational growth.
