The Genesis of a Revolutionary Concept

Airbus, the titan of the aviation industry, continues to redefine the limits of aerospace innovation. Unveiled at the 2017 Paris Air Show, Airbus is looking forward to the RACER's inaugural flight by the end of the year, following the recent release of its vibrant new livery.

A Revolutionary Design

At the core of the RACER's disruption lies its efficient and innovative design. Drawing upon successful elements from Airbus' trailblazing Eurocopter X³ experimental helicopter, the RACER combines a traditional main rotor with state-of-the-art lateral rotors. The result is an aircraft that is optimized for a cruising speed of 248 mph (400 km/h), a considerable leap when compared to the average 161 mph (260 km/h) top speed of traditional helicopters.

However, the RACER is not just about breaking speed records. The aircraft incorporates an innovative eco-mode hybrid-electrical system that enables one of its two engines to be shut down during cruise mode. This pioneering feature substantially reduces carbon and noise emissions, contributing to the aviation industry's ever-increasing focus on sustainability. Impressively, the RACER burns 15% less fuel per nautical mile at 180 kts compared to a conventional helicopter traveling at 130 kts.

Airbus envisions the RACER being utilized across a broad range of applications, from urban air mobility and emergency medical services to search and rescue missions.
