🌄 Reflections on KubeCon NA 2024 in Salt Lake City: A City Above the Clouds

As Taylor D. aptly described during his day 2 keynote at #KubeCon + #CloudNativeCon NA, Salt Lake City is a city above the clouds. I always look forward to Taylor’s talks at KubeCon; his ability to weave analogies from the local landscape and culture is inspiring. As a mountaineer, I was excited to hear his perspective on this city surrounded by majestic mountains!

This year, his message "How do we summit together?” resonated deeply with me. Maintaining a #CNCF project often feels like climbing a mountain: one step at a time, overcoming challenges, and striving toward a shared goal. And just like summiting, once you reach the top, you realize there are always more summits to explore.

Before KubeCon kicked off, I had the chance to truly connect with the place's spirit. Together with my friends Laurent Broudoux and Nicolas Ehrman , we warmed up for the conference with an unforgettable hike. Starting at Brighton Resort, we went via Silver Lake, above Lake Solitude, and reached 3000m before looping back. The crisp air, stunning views, and camaraderie made the adventure even more special.

For me, the mountains aren’t just a physical challenge; they’re a metaphor for life and work. Gaston Rébuffat’s words have always inspired me: “The mountaineer is a man who drives his body where, one day, his eyes have looked.”

At KubeCon, this spirit of collaboration and shared ambition reminded me that the journey, like hiking a mountain, is as crucial as targeting a summit. Whether in open source projects or personal endeavors, it’s about supporting each other to reach greater heights.

This is precisely the mindset we bring to Microcks . We’re committed to leveling up our project within the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) / CNCF TAG App Delivery and establishing Microcks as the de facto open source standard for mocking and testing microservices and APIs.
