Desperate times call for desperate measures to mitigate the Arctic sea crisis. The ice continues to melt, threatening planetary homeostasis.

The start-up Real Ice aims to pump seawater back onto the Arctic ice to stimulate ice growth. They are developing a green hydrogen-fueled underwater drone that punctures the ice from underneath and spouts seawater on top. The water then freezes, stimulating ice growth.

It would cost $10 billion per year, but 2024 is set to be another recording-breaking year for CO2 emissions, and we must be ready to go beyond emission reduction. Must-Reads.

90 million-year-old amber discovered in Antarctica suggests that the ice continent was once a lush green land with thriving forests and summer temperatures of 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

After deploying a special seafloor drill rig, scientists extracted samples from an ancient rock layer that they believed held clues about the Earth’s ancient past, which lacked continental ice for longer than one might expect.

And this is why, according to scientists, climate models still struggle to simulate high-CO2 climates accurately. “We are probably on the brink of a climate on planet Earth that is unprecedented in human history,” lead researchers said in a new study. We need to understand how these types of climates work. (Read More)
