Reid Hoffman & Ben Casnocha: The Startup of You has never been more relevant

You don't have to be an entrepreneur in order to be entrepreneurial.

The Startup of You

Today I’m bringing you an episode that we recorded and broadcast live from our studio. My guests are Reid Hoffman and Ben Casnocha, talking about their book, The Startup of You. And fun fact, I’ve known them both so long that I interviewed Reid when this book first came out, and I was a writer at Fortune Magazine—a decade ago

So who are Reid and Ben? Reid is one of the pioneers of social networking, and he's the founder of the company for which I work, LinkedIn. He's a partner at Greylock, and he sits on the board of Microsoft. He’s been investing in and advising startups—and people—for decades. Ben is also an entrepreneur, and an investor. Most recently, he helped start Village Global, an early-stage VC firm.

Together, Reid and Ben aim to teach us how to be ready for the future, how to invest in ourselves, and where we can level up in our careers. If you'd rather watch the original broadcast of our conversation, you can do so here. Otherwise, find this episode on any podcast player, or listen to it right here!

🪐 Office Hours: Running your career as an entrepreneur might

Reid points out that you don't have to be an entrepreneur to be entrepreneurial. No matter what your career path, how you can apply this approach to your own work? Come talk about this with me and producer Sarah Storm at Office Hours. We'll meet this Wednesday at 3pm EST. Bring a cup of coffee—or lunch, if you're on the West Coast—and join us for our weekly sync. I look forward to meeting you.

Reid has been on the show before. In June of 2020, I invited him to discuss how networking has changed. Our conversation is far-ranging, recorded in the midst of a collective emergency as we all scrambled to navigate the pandemic. But what he offered in terms of advice applies right now. Here's the episode:
