Reinvigorating Passion for Work - Monday Inspiration (2-Minute Read)

We often get up in the morning and slide into the routines of our lives and carry on with a business as usual attitude without the passion we once had for work. Remember how passionate you were when you were interviewing for that role? How exciting it was when you landed that new role?

A couple of months down the line and work just becomes a routine to pay the bills. The spark is gone and it feels like a dreary grind just to get through the day.

Work ought not to be so. The main reasons for loss of passion at work are stress and burnout. In the high performance, target-based environments that we work, the pressure to perform can lead to stress and burnouts and the passion we once had for work flies out the window without us even realizing.

Faris Kitanneh in an article 7 Steps Post Burnout for Reigniting Your Passion for Work lists seven steps to help get out of the blues and get your mojo back. Here are the seven steps.

  • Take time to reflect - Take breaks from work to reflect on your life trajectory. Devote time to pondering how things are going. Routine without reflection leaves you uninspired
  • Chronicle your problems - Make a list of everything that stresses you. Describe why each item is a source of anxiety and pinpoint possible solutions.
  • Identify a better job routine - Sometimes the routines of the day can be a main cause of stress. Overloaded calendars, taking too many responsibilities and bad time management could be culpable in making you stressed. Think of routines and processes that get you through the tasks for the day better and hone them in.
  • Reassess aspirations - Set personal and professional goals that lead to a better life. Look for a sweet spot where there is work-life balance. Just as Rome wasn’t built in a day, realize that your career is not going to be built in a day
  • Seek support -  Find people who support you when you face issues at home and work. Ask peers who have gone through similar experiences to share tips. A problem shared is half solved.
  • Expand your network - Meeting new people both at work and away from work opens us up to new perspectives, fresh ideas and spurs renewed passion.
  • Pay attention to your health - Eating better, exercising more and having enough sleep have been known to lead to higher energy levels.

Curious to know what other steps you take to reduce stress, recover from burnouts and get the passion back!

To your success!
