Remembering the Black President: A Tribute to Solomon Babafemi on His 96th Birthday
Today, we gather to celebrate the life of a true leader, a man who inspired many with his unwavering dedication to his work and his people. Solomon Babafemi, my late father, would have been 96 years old today. He was a man of great integrity, character, and honor.
My father spent his career working for the Nigeria Ports Authority, and he was known throughout the organization as the "Black President." This title was not given to him because of the color of his skin, but rather because of his exceptional leadership qualities. He was a man who commanded respect, not through fear or intimidation, but through his kindness, empathy, and understanding.

My father believed that "people enable people to succeed," and he lived this philosophy every day of his life. He was a mentor to many, and he always made time to listen to the concerns of his colleagues and offer guidance and support. He was a true champion of his people and their development, and he worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone under his leadership had the tools and resources they needed to succeed.
As his son, I am incredibly proud of the legacy that my father has left behind. He was a man who led by example, and his impact on the Nigeria Ports Authority and its employees will be felt for generations to come. He was a man of great faith, and he believed that through hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to doing what is right, anyone can achieve their dreams.
